I want to believe the best of people but gently caress, I'm having trouble trusting anyone in high level Smash at the moment, or even at a high level in the FGC more generally edit: Wow so that's what the world's worst pagesnipe looks like

zero was super weird so that doesn’t parse. He wore Virgin Pride shirts and frequently discussed waifus. The lesson here is never fully trust prominent members of a community, regardless of how high they fly their freak flag. Like, don’t go and double down on Alpharad or whomever as the Last Good Smash Boy, because that’s partly how these people get feelings of invincibility. Enjoy their content, but always hold them accountable.

I played this game today with some Discord friends and it was nice to be able to forget everything surrounding it for a couple hours and just play the drat thing Not that anything around it should be forgotten nor do I intend to. But with this being one of my favourite games it's just nice to be able to reaffirm my own enjoyment of it, even when the community is rightly on fire A lot of the usual Smash content creators who have not been implicated in anything have all taken a break from videos to give the allegations an uncontested spotlight. When everything is all said and done and the scum are purged, I do wonder how many might be permanently soured by the whole thing. It'll be hard to just resume wacky Smash videos like nothing happened

Smash will ultimately be fine. The community is far, far larger than the top players of the competitive scene. I would bet that 90% of players don't follow it at all and aren't even aware that anything happened and as far as the competitive scene is concerned, newer faces will appear to fill in the gaps left by Nairo et al and tournament organizers and top players will be subject to considerably more scrutiny in their conduct. In some ways this could mark the time that Smash finally grows up. "Nobody seeks help until they hit rock bottom" and all that. We don't play this game because of a handful of elite players. We play this game because we love it and it's the only way that you can see Joker team up with Yoshi to defeat Mewtwo and Solid Snake in Dracula's Castle. If anything, all these revelations have made me want to play the game even more out of a desire to "reclaim" it so to speak, to help it move on from this. In fact, it's worth mentioning that as far as TO's are concerned, we're already seeing constructive changes in the way that their tournaments will be held in the future. Namely things like minors must be chaperoned by a friend of family member outside the Smash community, no alcohol is to be served on any tournament premises where minors are present, being drunk at a tournament is an immediate indefinite ban, restructuring the tournament scene to give more power to people outside the community, scheduling so that minors play earlier and can leave earlier, afterparties being strictly 18+, etc A lot of these things are obvious in hindsight, but better late than never. The root of all of these problems seem to be the same ones that plague most places with a "party atmosphere," namely a lack of clear rules or authority combined with alcohol. Sometimes you need people who will be the wet blanket so that people don't get drunk and ruin everyone's lives and I suspect that one of the reasons this festered for so long was that nobody wanted to be "that guy" who ruins everyones good time. Man I just watched HungryBox play and saw all the poo poo he gets forced to go through, the crab, everyone just loving hating him for not playiing a space animal etc. It made him kind of a underdog to me. Gonna feel a bit of hurt if something gets released, but just waiting for it at this point.

The community loving hates him because he wants to play puff and nothing else really so they try to ban him to keep him from playing her. They try to ban the character itself. They want it gone so it can just be spacies and marth forever (sometimes starring Sheik/Peach) It's capped that whenever Hbox wins a tourney or big event people boo him and yell at him and in one case threw a dead crab at him at a venue because they just want him gone.
