Mostly because those filters are designed to work in optimal camera conditions, with a single face in the frame, maybe 2-3 faces max, with good levels of facial details in them. So they'd be really ineffective at blocking each face in the video for every single frame, and it all it takes is one good "uncensored" frame to successfully identify someone. The technology to cover everyone's face in a video automatically probably does exist, but none of the social media apps will have the stones to implement it.

I think it's kind of hilarious in retrospect how people thought the wide spread coming of the internet would mean mass democratization of the planet. But instead lmao, it's actually become the exact opposite. A tool for the niche neo-nazis to find willing adherents, and another tool for literal crazy people to spread utter bullshit as gospel. And finally, a tool for authoritarian governments to track and suppress any opposition in the cradle. Who knew that inventing a mass, instant global communication system is actually a great filter, and if your species does it, they get to yell in increasingly louder and more frustrated tones into the void as they had themselves to death via combustion engine. So, what I'm trying to say is, thanks Boomers, I hope that our last act as a human species is to create a mile tall middle finger for future archaeology inclined aliens to wonder at.

Apparently protonmail threatened to delete my friends' account over a $2 dispute in which protonmail was in the wrong. A guy who got shook down by the FBI for creating Diaspora, the super secure social network used exclusively by ISIS, apparently, once explained to me how to set up my own secure server and it was like he was trying to teach calculus to a hog but if someone wants to give it a try (in an appropriate thread) I'd be more than grateful. I own my own domain if that helps. ***The kind of guy who deals with privacy to the point he has a hardcore 'gently caress protonmail' opinion literally told me about a dude he worked with getting fed up with his charity's engagement with red tape, and doing stuff I won't put on the internet cause the poor dude has issues enough.
