How is popular culture going to react to the virus? Are they just going to pretend it doesn't exist? Is it going to be normal to see people wearing masks in movies and TV? When is that going to start? Do you want that or would you prefer fictional depictions to pretend like things are the way they were before the virus?

I will be very surprised if it ever shows up outside of things where COVID is central to the plot.

i do have a feeling it will be prevalent in a decade or more where the plot requires that sense of time, but i don't think it will be now. its like those movies that centered around 9/11 or use 9/11 twists like united 93 or the ending of remember me. i predict it will be forced in a lot.

Tom Gorman posted:oh god they're gonna make an Oscar bait coronavirus movie aren't they No doubt we will see a scene that hinges on the fact that two people definitely 100% could never recognize each other masks off when they have, up to that point, only seen each other masks on... A tearjerker of a moment if there ever was one

The fun mental exercise is figuring out how long until a movie uses a time skip cut to everyone now wearing masks, and otherwise behaving the same, to make it clear it is 2020 in the film

Unless the film was specifically set right now, or intentionally set during the Corona pandemic, this wouldn't need to happen at all.

Most Americans already don't wear masks while their friends and family are dying or losing much of their respiratory function so why do you expect to see mask wearing in most media???
