I'd be stunned if this was a DDT decision; they have people that can do English commentary on hand in Japan (the Chris Brookes Produce show had Haku (DDT English Update guy) and Shota (Ganbare wrestler who's English is very good) on commentary, they also have Chris Brookes who's done it before in other places and would be available for the TJPW show and possibly the end of the DDT show as well depending on card order) and based on product knowledge and ability some combination of those three would make sense. This just screams Fite TV: as far as I'm aware none of these people have any links to DDT and so why would they go for them over people with better product knowledge and a closer relationship? Could be wrong though.

It has the potential to be such a car crash. I'm trying to imagine Sonny Onoo commentating over the Dino vs Honda match I watched last night from episode 6 of their weekly COVID TV show. Someone with absolutely no familiarity of the product trying to explain the Space Tornado Danshoku Driver & Super Gongitsune 3. Or trying to sell Yoshiko. Fite could do so much better.

I think Sonny is the middle man for a handful of Japanese vets who come to America.

Just going to quote this from the latest update on https://puro.news "Atsushi Onita has expressed interest in participating in the AJPW Atsushi Aoki memorial show on 8/15. He also offered to bring his Blast Death Match to ZERO1/Super Fireworks but new president Aja Kong said she wasn’t interested." Because the idea of Aja Kong just not being interested in Onita's bullshit is very much something I can sympathise with.

Yeah she’s part of the new Zero-1 management team; with the FIREWORKS PRO WRESTLING deal now being led by Aja and Megumi Kudo with the latter also training a Joshi division for them. The wider story here is that Onita apparently screwed the new Zero-1 owner out of cash years ago and so he’s not overly happy with him so I imagine it’s as much him not wanting Onita involved as anything.

Watching DDT's Money in the Bag show from last month (I will never catch up) & I'm 15 minutes in & all I really have to go in is the Dramatic DDT blogs summaries & it's everything that kind of kept me away from DDT before (mainly the feeling that it's a promotion that improves when you can understand what the hell is happening) but somehow it's enough. It's weird, chaotic nonsense & I'm glad I don't have to try & explain what the gently caress is going on to anyone but it's making me smile. Also finding out that Shinya Aoki has a voice almost as rough as Honma is a real shocker.
