poo poo I'm watching: Deca-dence is a no-brainer for my favorite premiere of the season. Yuzuru Tachikawa directed some of my favorite action anime of all time in Mob Psycho, and his talents are on full display here. Delightful protag, evocative setting, lots of interesting mysteries raised, exquisite production. A winner basically any way you look at it. The Great Pretender had me a little uncertain after episode 1, but I enjoyed episode 2 a lot more. The genre is far enough outside my usual wheelhouse that it'll have to hit almost perfectly to truly stay with me, but the early con-artistry has been fun, we're setting up some compelling character stuff, and the art style is vivid and intensely charming in its deliberate sleaze. Really refreshing to see something like this come out of Studio WIT after all my previous encounters with their work being shows with relatively dour and realistic art styles. Lapis ReLights was something of a pleasant surprise. I believe this is the studio's first outing beyond supporting other productions, and they're off to a pretty nice start. The material itself is nothing earthshaking, idol-adjacent SoL material in a fantasy setting with some magical hooks, but it's all presented charmingly enough to keep me on for now. Umayon - sure, I'll watch 3 minute chunks of Uma Musume characters being dumb, why not Houkago Teibou Nisshi - restarted after Covid delayed it out of spring. Similar to Lapis ReLights - nothing earthshakingly new as SoL fare goes, but it's got that DogaKobo sheen to it and that lends it enough charm for me to have a perfectly pleasant time with it thus far.

Deca-Dence had a great first episode, definitely looking forward to more. Great Pretender has been really fun so far, four or five episodes in. Really stylish and clever crime comedy. Oregairu's first episode felt more like a mid-season episode than a season premiere after a five year wait, but I'm still expecting great things. Re:Zero is on my list as well, although I definitely need to watch a recap first. Houkago Teibou Nisshi was okay so far, nothing special but an easy watch. Railgun isn't listed in the OP, but supposedly it's starting back up in two weeks. Might check out Uzaki-chan, Rent-a-Girlfriend, and Japan Sinks.

I'll be watching deca-dence and fishing girls week to week, i think that's it. don't really see any sleeper picks this season among the new stuff. great pretender is also very good based on what's out so far.

Not sure how directly related to the second season's plot it will be, but it's not like some weird sidestory that'll never come up ever again, it's the entire backstory of a main character.

Looking forward to Appare-Ranman starting again, I only ended up watching the first two episodes before I heard about it getting delayed so I didn’t bother watching the third but I enjoyed what I saw.

The movie is definitely very relevant to the second season. I won't say more than that. Personally, watching Rezero 2, God of High School, and Snafu so far. Don't have Funimation which leaves me with pretty thin pickings this time around, might be the time to go back and finish shows from the last few seasons.

Rental GF was super cringy for the first half of the first episode but it really grew on me when the lead girl's actual personality starts to be revealed and the hijinks ensue.

Boy that first Uzaki review sure is fuckin bad and dumb, and the second is not much better. Anime blogs continue to be terrible.
