Though the race broadcast window is 2½ hours, and 2 hours of that is for the race itself, the fact is that there was only 87 minutes of full-screen race broadcast for the Saturday race on NBCSN. If you cut out some of the filler in there for cautions, packaged segments, interviews, etc, you're maybe closer to 65-75 minutes of actual on-track racing product that you'd care to give your undivided attention to. Giving each race 30 minutes is more than enough to cover the flow and the major beats, I think. It's a good compromise for not giving everyone free access to the full races anymore.

If it's anything like iRacing, the apron is treacherous as hell, super easy to loop it, you have basically no grip till you're high up in second. Car's set up for the banking with relatively low downforce, it's like driving on ice.

the indy 500 is truly indicative of the American century, started before ww1, became the most famed race basically anywhere in the 50s and 60s. Although Euros still looked down on it, nothing came close to its attendance and reward money. It dies with the American Empire, slowly petering out before probably eventually ceasing or just reverting to its most perverse form (the brickyard 400) in obscurity.
