I also consider the Chiral Artist a must have. You get golden shoes that last forever. You can carry 3 sets for free essentially and theyll last you the whole game. Its great to have one less bar to worry about.

They're ok but even the level 2 Bridges boots are tough enough to last for hours and when you get level 3 they're better than the chiral boots. I wouldn't call them critical since you get better stuff unlocked by the plot, while the AT skeleton is missable.

Holy poo poo, I'ma grind the chiral artist like a pro once I finish my current stuff- it's really stupid and boots have never been a problem, but it always freaks me out that technically boots are a non-finite resource.

Also, this has been driving me crazy for days- every so often, usually when I'm boosting in a bike, I'll hear four beeps followed by a star trek hypospray noise and get a brief moment of slow motion. What the heck is that? It's not a transfusion 'cause I'm not hurt, it's not BTs because Sam's hand buddy is limp, I'm pretty sure it's not a battery thing, so what's the deal?

Timefall happens in set locations. Some areas have Timefall occasionally, some always and some never.

I'm trying to decide whether to drop $60 on this. Many people say it's boring, but I play truck simulators and poo poo, so I don't mind a delivery simulator. My main thing is replayability. How many objectives are there to do at any given moment? Can these objectives be "exhausted" or can I Fedex forever? When the game ends I hear you can keep playing, but are the side quests finite?

The side deliveries are not finite, they rotate/repeat every few ingame 'days'. And moreover there are 500 individual deliveries to make and get ranked on. Pretty much every waystation has a delivery to everywhere else somewhere in its rotation, sometimes multiple.

So the bit where BB needs maintenance and you get to do a shitload of deliveries in frustrating terrain with no radar isn't great.

Did you locate the roboticist? Raise your rating with her first, she gives you gear that's practically mandatory for hiking in the mountains. It won't help avoid BTs but it will save a lot of grief.

Are there any critical normal orders? I.e. once you've maxed out a station's stars, is there any point in delivering more stuff there? (beyond getting likes and so on)

I just finished this bit and thought it was brilliant it works from both a gameplay perspective and a story perspective, if anything it made me less fearful of BT's in general, led to one of my favourite bits in the game accidentally stumbling into a BT and cutting its cord without meaning it, and then getting a like from the BT :swoon:

No, the only orders that you can't skip are the ones under "orders for Sam" that move the plot forward.

Sorry just to be clear: does getting to 5 stars with the various side characters (elder, engineer, etc.) actually get you more useful stuff?

I have just been adding them to the network and moving on, so most of them are on like 2 and a bit stars. Some of them give you stuff at that point and I assumed that was it. I'm enjoying the game but not enough to want to grind deliveries for all of them.

Thanks for the difficulty reminder, I'm gonna drop to easy I think. Fighting BTs has been an exercise in frustration.

Oh yeah, you get something whenever you hit a new star threshold with someone. E.g. the engineer who gives you the basic skeleton unlocks the level 2 and 3 versions of the skeleton when you get to 3 and 4 stars, respectively.

There is ONE Order for Sam that I can think of that is actually optional, but you should still do it because it gets you a really fun tool. When Die Hardman tells you about stolen sticky guns, listen to his advice and go do it at the Distro Center South of Lake Knot asap.

edit: Oh also you don't need to worry about getting S ranks on Orders for Sam on the first try, they're added to the Standard Orders rotation once you finish them. There's one mission you are graded on that you can't repeat (building a postbox for Die Hardman) but I don't think it counts toward the total? I'm not sure.

I know there's at least one more Order for Sam that's optional. Sometime in Chapter 2 you can get an order to deliver cryptobiotes with a time limit to central knot from... Distribution Center West, maybe? I dunno, the timing to do it never worked out for me so I left the East without ever doing it. It probably unlocks something actually useful and I should go back for it but ehhhhh.

I really lucked out on the (chapter 6) no BB chapter. Someone left me a zip line up the mountain right up to the edge of the network at the time. I dunno if I had to blind-navigate BT zones up there or what, because I played the whole game and never touched the ground there.

Those are all worth doing, it seems - I delayed leaving port knot to do a bunch of timed ones and got huge connection bonuses. None of them took more than 10 minutes even though they had a 45 minute time limit

I didn't find the timing too strict for missions where you're on the clock, whether they start out like that or you impose a time limit on yourself by making an order a Premium Delivery. Even if it seems like timing will be tight there are always ways to equip Sam or things to do to better prepare your route that will make things go much faster.

S ranked that postbox mission and everything else so far! Knowing I can retry is cool, but everyone knows only the first attempt really counts.

I know I'll change my tune first time I don't get an S rank, but it seems somewhat generous on Hard for these first babby tut missions. Just did my first mission with ghosts AND human jerks. Thought I'd just take a wide crouching path around the mules, kind of up a mountain slope/face, but I still go pinged and would scuttle off in a panic. They never actually caught me, but I did freak the BB out when I "climbed down" a cliff a little too high and roughly and I ended up giving it some kind of condition or whatever :-( I was tempted to reload a save but then the ghouls showed up. That seemed fine at first, the clacker was nice and blue and I was making good progress seemingly safe, then I stopped for a second to do a radar sweep, and holy poo poo i was like mad deep into a big mob of spooker dooks and then I got grabbed b y one and the awful dark water mashing began. Got out finally but lost a little stamina and I just sprinted away in a panic but I got to destination alive.

Still got an S rank for that! A couple of my rare metal deliveries were over 6% damaged!! I'm in for some real disasters if they're already allowing me this much leeway :___:

This engine is great. I have a relatively crusty 4770k/980ti setup and it never drops under 55 at 1440p, and sits in the 70-90 range at 1080. It's playable at 35-45 in native 4k, but honestly 1440 looks fine. One day I'll get a DLSS card I guess.

I'm now really looking forward to HZD on PC even though I never finished it on PS4.

Question about how BB works with Fragile teleportation[/b]

[spoiler]The first time you use Fragile to teleport, she tells you that you can't take much, just trinket and things that mean a lot. Sam is in his onesie with no items and never takes BB with him. When you appear in the next room, BB is in the wall. I'm sure they explained it, but maybe I missed it. Is that the same BB do they send it through a tube or something?

Same thing happened to me, a few clutch online zip-lines at the peaks of the mountains around mountain knot let me skip the entire ascent, from there I could rope/snowboard my way around to fill in a few gaps, never actually encountered any BTs.

Hated this fight even on Hard. The combat on this game is bad, I’m glad they mostly made it trivial to bypass, but having a boss battle with multiple enemies in confined spaces like that... annoying.

edit: That complaint aside and some complaints about freezing and glitching that hopefully will get sorted out, this has easily been the best game I’ve played this year. Truly enjoyable experience, compelling gameplay, I can’t get enough. Just waiting to rack up likes on my awesome zip line placements.

I snatched up guns and wasted any skeletons I ran into. Your odradek will point towards the Combat Veteran, I didn't run into skeletons unless I went towards him but I played on normal and have no idea if they get more strategic or aggressive on hard. Other people have said you can use your strand to insta-kill them if you can get behind them.

Combat veteran spoiler: I wasn't a fan of the first combat zone but I actually really liked the WW2 and Vietnam era levels. It helped that I knew what I was supposed to do, I spent like 5 minutes trying to exit the first area and looking for any kind of trigger/button prompt before I decided to try using the guns lying around to shoot things. I liked how each environment was very different. The trenches are narrow and claustrophobic, the bombed city is open with random bits of cover or buildings to work around, and the forest in Vietnam is full of grass and trees to try and hide in. By the third combat nightmare I was pumped to go beat up Mads Mikkelsen.
