I finally pulled the trigger on a new bike after mine was stolen a few weeks back. Can’t wait to just get out and ride. Solo ride, group ride, any ride is a good ride.

I ride bikes with my 8yr old son and my wife for family fun. But all my other riding (and running) is solo. Being alone with my thoughts is part of why I like doing it.

What did you get? Sucks that your old bike was stolen, but nice opportunity to upgrade.

Same. :smith: I miss doing a steady 35 km/h looking into someone's butt, barely breaking a sweat.

I had a really bad creak develop on my last ride. About 100km since I did a full drivetrain degrease, clean, re-tweaked the groupset and all that. It feels like it comes from the bottom bracket, under load, but everything I've read says the skewers are usually the first culprit, so I greased those mothers up and the mounting points. I hope that does it. This creaking sound is driving me nuts. :thunkgun:

Trek Domane SL7 - local shop somehow had one in stock, so just pulled the trigger on it. Way more bike than I need, but the insurance money covered it and hopefully I’ll ride it into the ground.

I'm planning my next big ride. What do you all like to eat while riding? So far I'm working with
- PB&J / PB&Honey
- Rice crispy treats
- Dry pancakes
- home made rice cakes
- gummy bears
- chocolate covered espresso beans
- just ordered some stroopwafels
- burnt out on Clif blocs

If the ride is 6 or less hours I just drink Maltodextrin. I add Fructose if I'm doing hard work. Over 6 and I try to add some source of protein at the halfway point.

Alright, then I might have to mix in the Buzz and Nut Butter variants of Clif Bars to get that variety.

boiled red potatoes with an insane amount of salt on them.
pickles + pickle juice
bananas
more home made rice cakes
I just tried one of those "epic" protein bars for the first time (spicy sriracha chicken) and it was pretty dang good

I mixed dates, melted chocolate, a flavorless electrolyte mix, and maybe some whey protein in a food processor. Then rolled the result into balls and wrapped them in biodegradable wrappers. Those were a pretty good time.

I've also just stuffed my jersey with brown sugar cinnamon poptarts.

100km gravel event today in 30-40c heat, according to my bike computer.

I violated the 'never change anything on your bike just before an event' rule and got dropped from my group because I was hunting for a noise that sounded exactly like the indexing being off but it was a combination of the cassette being work down a bit funny because I stole it off my trainer and only took it for a spin around the block a few times and thought all hell was breaking loose the second I had to actually climb a hill in it.

Then I helped a little kid who should be on the devo team fix a flat because he borrowed a bike older than he is and didn't understand how cantis work and how to disconnect the brake.

After that I hooked up with some killer fast dudes I know until I knew I couldn't take it anymore so I gave em a monster pull and launched em. Few mins later I hook up with a couple guys I race cross with and ground out the rest until I started to bonk 5km from the finish and had to mooch a Nunn tab, managed to finish the ride including the last monster climb and then almost passed out in the parking lot. Couldn't eat any of my food because once I'm in overheating and bonking territory anything like a gel or gummy would make me hurl so after lating there for 20 mins I ate a piece of birthday cake and smashed a gas station sandwich and Gatorade on the way home. Shin cramped 2km from home while driving I had to get my wife to park the truck and while hosing the dust off the bike discovered that the RD was a bit loose at the hangar as well :argh: now even under heavy load it's way better.

It was an awesome day for bikes.

My only regret is I didn't get a pic of the super fluffy kitty that wanted all the pets while I was sitting on the ground kinda wanting to cry.

If you don't ride in the wee hours of the morning its harder to justify being three beers in by 11am.

I eat Ensure for every ride including PBP. I think I was carrying 4 bottles. I usually just end up eating at 7-11 or Safeway though for most brevets. It really depends on where you're going. On-bike nutrition is always bottled or liquid though until around 14 hours in. At that point, its been pretty much anything goes. My nausea at 14+hours was only resolved when I started lowering the sheer amount of sugary drinks I was drinking and switched over to solids.

One of the things that helped during PBP was packets of this - https://www.skratchlabs.com/products/sport-recovery-drink-mix?variant=42707389957 Something about the protein and chocolate helped everything go down easier after I had this.
