Imagine four 'mechs waiting in a queue. Time works the same way.
The main problem is the dumb hand actuators in the arms which are preventing anything good on the nightstar.

The 10P as I was trying to work it seems to do best with longer range weapons which isn't my normal playstyle.

I ended up getting a fafnir 5 and had similar issues but I have never really used gauss in close range which is probably my fault.

I think my favorite mech has been a CTF-0XP with stealth.

EDIT: This is the NSR-10P build I have so far. Not a fan.

so the secret to the HGauss/Wubs Annihilator/Fafnir builds is that the gauss charge time is almost exactly the burn duration of the MPLs.

So you click both buttons and when the MPLs are finished burning you let loose with the Hgauss. This is an 80-point alpha that is insanely difficult to twist away. It's tough to get down but once it does you'll be one-shotting lights and mediums and taking torsos off heavies and assaults in no time

This has been my match score farmer for the current event. It can pull some crazy numbers, had a game last night with 730 score and 1300 missiles destroyed, just out of control.

Only other mech I enjoy that much is my stupid LRM Awesome, more map dependant but it pulls some crazy scores too.

That one's tough because p. much all lights cannot make good use of ballistics

The urbanmech is legit disgustingly tough. Commoners had a nice build, but I think its one of the mechs that can make use of a rotary well:

in this case you're a tiny target that wants to annoy the poo poo out of something bigger and facetank it into shooting you instead.

Basically you tackle something for a bigger mech to wreck.

Stacking MPLs can be good too.

So I decided to get back into this dumb robutt game, and spent 15 bucks on MC to celebrate 50 hours. When I bought it, the steam page said “one time bonus”. What does that mean?
Also, any recommendations on a good low skill mech for 3,400 MC?

You get a bonus for buying MC during the event

I think the Deathstrike is on sale for like 3300? It’s a clan 90-tonner which is v. good gaussvomit

Skippy McPants

If you're spending MC you want to buy Hero Mechs; never buy regular mechs with MC.

With that in mind, the Deathstrike (Mad Cat MK II), Sleipnir (Cyclops), and Top Dog (Thunderbolt) are all good options.

I'd pass on the HBR hero unless you really like the chassis and want the C-bill bonus. The HBR-P also has the 2E Right Torso pod, which is the variant's big draw.

Remember, when you're buying an Omni mech you're mostly buying a set of Omni-pods. Some Omni-Heros have pods that unlock unique functionality (Ultraviolet, Reline) but others don't.

I remember squawking a lot in the beta for this and even buying a preorder package and then never logging in since it released. According to the website I have the preorder Atlas, 20k MC, and 1464 hours of banked premium time. I'm debating downloading it because it's been so long but watching some of the videos on the last few pages of the thread are making me remember how fun the game could be when it wasn't crashing. It's amazing that there's 821 mech variants in the game now, so I'm only 820 behind!

Skippy McPants
Mar 19, 2009

That's about 100$ worth of MC, enough to buy a half-dozen to a dozen hero mechs.

If you do come back, be careful about spending MC on non-Hero mechs or C-bills. It'll be tempting, especially if you get bottle-necked on C-bills but the MC conversation is terrible. You'll be better off playing the game a bit more, and with 1500 hours of premium time you should get a decent chunk of change from regular play.

yeah if you join now and use that MC to buy a hero mech or two (Deathstrike and IV-4 are good to start with) then that plus the premium time means you'll be raking in cbills

TOP DAWWWWWG

Can do a standard IS laser vomit (3 large lasers plus a mix of engine, medium lasers, and heatsinks to taste) or be a ridiculous medium pulse laser boat that plays like the K9 or Crab's roided out big brother. Doesn't have impressive quirks but it has much better mobility stats than other Thunderbolts (better torso twisting and acceleration) and has 8 of 9 energy hardpoints at or just below cockpit level in your side torsos which is basically ideal hardpoint geometry.

Skippy McPants
Mar 19, 2009

I will never not rep the Top Dog, but it doesn't look like it's part of this sale. None of the hero mechs currently on sale are pure laser vomit but as Patton already pointed out the DS is a Guass Vomit monster.

Edit: and the TD defiantly has impressive quirks. Structure isn't as good as armor, but +15 to all is still above average for 65 tons (only the RGH, DRG, IV4 are tankier) and that +10 energy range isn't wasted either.

Yeah I ran through it last night, I got like 5 million C bills (plus 100 for shooting the captain). I played a couple of matches but the Atlas variants I have are not great with the base loadouts and I think it was the D-DC we put a gauss on in the beta, which I don't own and probably isn't worth buying now. It's interesting how much the freemium monetization of this apes world of tanks which I also haven't played in forever but did play 15k games of at one point.

That 5 mil plus the cadet bonus should easily send you on your way to picking up one of the mechs on sale. For a newbie without many mech options I recommend a good omnimech like the Hellbringer-Prime or the Sun Spider-D, as their omnipods allow for very versatile builds so you can test out what you like to do on a good chassis before buying mechs with hardlocked roles that you might not enjoy.

The Sun Spiders are on 50% sale now, no less. So you ought to be close to affording one, if you can't yet.

I wish the D-DC had been part of the founder's program, but it wasn't, and it's probably not worth buying now. Here's what I have at the moment, two Atlases and some trial mechs:

I understand now that Hero mechs get +30% C-bills, kind of like a premium tank in WoT getting extra credits. I see there's also Champion mechs that get bonus XP, are those ever worthwhile?
