"Slow Decay" by The Acacia Strain is out today. If you had told me in January that on top of all the wild poo poo 2020 was going to have in store, TAS would release their best record, I would have lol'd. Here we are though. Just a super solid album front to back, combines all elements of their sound over the years into one package that just works. Low crushing breakdowns, twosteps, catchy one-liners in the lyrics, and slower doomy tracks. All of the vocal features are on point too. I'll fanboy for this record all fuckin day. obviously an interesting strategy for release, but it feels like the day of the album drop lost some of its potential excitement bc we've been given a slow drip for the past few months. i'm not sure whether i'm stoked to have a steady stream of songs or if i would have preferred a drop all at once to really soak it all in on my own time. in a sort-of-but-not-really comparison it's like netflix drops an entire season all at once to let you tackle it on your terms where they used to do an episode a week (or whatever). TAS did the opposite with this new album and i gotta say i don't think i prefer it. also sort-of-related, but i really hate how spotify handles singles from upcoming albums these days. idk if it's just metal/hardcore but it'll go like this: - first single drops and it's a "single" with just that song - second single drops and it's a "single" with the new song and the previous one - third single drops and it's an "EP" with the new song and the two previous ones - the album drops, and now that artist page has 4+ "albums" to sift through when choosing what to listen to loving UX is a god drat mess

holy poo poo lol i dont live in NY anymore but i have definitely been to fins pub (now called shakers i guess) a few times. i saw the contortionist there when they only had exoplanet, so around a decade ago. then i saw antichrist demoncore around ~6 years ago when they dropped their self titled LP why in the gently caress did they leave all the lights on at full fluorescent blast tho

Yeah they encored Bohemian Rhapsody on that one iirc Mordecai was encore on the colors 2017 tour Condemned to the Gallows on their early 2019 tour All other times I've seen them they've played it
