Just gotta whine about something. I live in Salt Lake City which is Colorado Avalanche AND Vegas Silver Knights broadcast territory. I’m a fan of the Avalanche and because of the goofy broadcast rules in the NHL that games on national television are also simulcast on the local Regional Sports Network (this being Altitude Sports. Altitude and Comcast have had an ongoing dispute for a while now and Altitude isn’t carried on Comcast anywhere in the Avalanche broadcast territory but the nationally televised games are still blacked out on Comcast in those territories. I can’t subscribe to an NHL package to get those games since those packages black out the home territory teams so I’ve got no way to watch those games unless I pay an early termination fee to Comcast and switch to DirecTV. Altitude isn’t on Dish either.

Altitude is run by the owners of the Nuggets/Avalanche but have basically been asking for way too much money from cable operators to carry them and the operators balked when it came time to renew the contract.

This even applies in Denver. The vast majority of households in Denver have no access to Nuggets or Avalanche games, and with the NHL’s wild rules about nationally televised games being blacked out locally due to the local regional sports net simulcast that no one can access, it really sucks!

You forgot the best part they let the dish direct TV and Comcast deals all expire at the same time so they had no leverage whatsoever.

It's obviously not a big thing here but ESPN and FS1 have been taking what they can get when there hasn't been much else to show, and it's not like there's a lot of programming up against it if you're running super early in the morning.

It’s bounced back and forth between niche Fox Sports channels and ESPN over the years. I think most of the diehards just have the Watch AFL pass. Normally it’s a curiosity in the American summer, but now has a bit higher profile considering American sports ain’t doing too hot.

CBS will air the PGA Championship on August 8th (the date of the second legs of Barca-Napoli and Bayern-Chelsea) and 9th (an off day), and the start time for the CBS coverage on Saturday conflicts with the Champions League start times, forcing the move to cable. As for the conflict on the Champions League Final day, that’s also golf-related, thanks to the network’s coverage of The Northern Trust.

As for the mid-week games not airing anywhere on TV…yeah, that’s not ideal. I don’t think you need to be a rocket scientist to realize that a potential Barcelona-Bayern Munich tie on Friday would draw much more interest than an episode of Tiki & Tierney. The good news is that CBS is offering a free month-long trial of All-Access, so you’ll only have to start shelling out for it next year.

But in case you don’t mind Spanish language coverage, TUDN has the rights in the US, and has provided plenty of coverage over the last year and a half.
