It doesn't matter if it's a movie, a play, or choose your own adventure book - it's been done to death and I'm sick of it.

Turn 14 Marquis, this time I backstabbed Sun Jian and netted Liu Biao's support before striking north and grabbing Yuan Shu's support. For as terrible as I thought Yuan Shu was, he sure gets the ball rolling quick.

30 years’ war English civil war Warring states China Egypt v Hyrkanians deathmatch Wars of the kingdom of Mali Mongol conquests v1 You Khan too Mongol conquests v2 this time it’s Mughal Even Empire but not poo poo So many good periods they can still cover without just mashing spearman together. Also it would be amazing to see future iterations of the engine model discipline more subtly, maybe with troops losing cohesion faster and visibly disintegrating into mobs before they break, or well drilled troops doing that rotation thing Vorenus does in the first episode of the HBO Rome series.

Chocobo posted:For as terrible as I thought Yuan Shu was, he sure gets the ball rolling quick. Historically pretty accurate. No one liked yuan shu. At the time he was one of the top warlords. Unfortunately for him he miscalculated and used the imperial seal to claim his right as emperor before that was the cool thing to do. As you can guess this angered all the other warlords and the han loyalists. Even the Sun family which were his vassals at the time and had the loyalty of his best officers abandoned him. This ultimately led to his death and defeat at the hands Cao Cao, Liu Bei, and Lu Bu.

That’s not really how TW operates. Every faction has their core units and some auxiliaries I suppose. Like the Romans to used a ton of different poo poo but in the end heavy infantry was the focus

Spearmanii could be interesting, but you'd have to really vary infantry roles and effectiveness, and make infantry the focus of the tactical game. Even then they'd likely be visually boring. At that point, you're probably better off just trying to make a different genre game altogether. I'm not saying I wouldn't play some kind of lovingly-crafted hyper-grognard medieval wargame strategy/sim, but it wouldn't really be Total War either. e: From what I've seen of the terrain types and attempts to add infantry roles, they seem to be trying to change some of it up somewhat and I'm curious how that works out.

That's the sort of thing that doesn't work in the bigger total war games because of the micro though. I already kinda get bored pausing the game so i can deploy my 8 fanatics or whatever.

I would like more of the various tribal units added to 3k. That'd be neat. Tied to buildings like the Qiang are. Maybe make them region dependent so you get less Han units the more you move away from the central plains thunderdome. E: The Glaive Unit Pack posted a little while ago has been discontinued for a Wood Unit Pack and it's very nice. Highly recommend the 3 Unit Pack mods as it fills out the roster nicely and gives you a lot of options. Flipswitch fucked around with this message at 12:47 on Jul 27, 2020 |

Don't know why I never tried Ma Teng before, once you get your opening moves down it's a delight to play. Haven't even cheesed to get Lu Bu or Sun Ce, it's been so much fun to ignore ranged units and blast everyone with a small number of shield infantry and a whole lot of horses.

That was honestly a great feature and a smart way of dealing with the march of technology without having to create entirely new units for each period. The same spearman unit could fit in the early, mid and late periods by upgrading the armor and weapons. I sort of wish they did something similar for Warhammer, as seeing your army visibly change as you research technologies would be cool. Though, in 3k the weapon and armor mechanics seem to mostly be geared towards heroes.

I wonder how much money they make from those blood DLCs. It just seems like such a petty amount but they do it for every new game they release.

In theory it's because Sega insists on a teen release rating, because apparently that affects sales, though I really don't buy that considering most teens are playing poo poo like GTA and CoD. I doubt their parents would draw the line at an RTS with a little tomato sauce splashing around.

I'm thinking it's more likely that their schedules got shifted by the Epic deal and everything else going on, and instead of having everything in from the start, they're partitioning content over a longer period of time. Less about support, more about early access.
