This is our second day of school and our superintendent just sent out an email at lunch stating that he believes that we had a great first day. Which if you ignore the pandemic, it went great. However, his email asks us for suggestions that might make us feel better prepared or better assured about being here during the pandemic, but not to suggest e-learning.

Our new department manager started this week after doing a tour as a FEMA relief nurse in NY. She says that “war zone” doesn’t even begin to cover it and that she probably only lived bc her friends at home chipped in and sent her a half-face respirator.

She described her shifts there as follows: Show up, suit up, dig your meds out of a Rubbermaid tub that was set up by the no-longer-functioning Pyxis, grab some supplies, go into the room. You would be tape-sealed into the room and your communication with the outside world was through the call bell mic. Four vented patients in the room, with you, alone. You would just try to keep them alive as best you could, and whenever one died you would hit the bell and the transporters would come get them and within ten minutes the next one would come in. She said that anywhere from two to seven patients would die under her care during each shift. Nurses that she worked with died, several as her patients. At the peak of it they had to hire almost all new transporters because so many of them quit after like a third of them died.

I checked my local news FB page and they posted an article about the GOP challenging Governor Ever's mask order and like 90% of the people were making fun of the GOP being big babies and are suggesting following science, etc. Usually there are a ton of chuds and MAH FREEDOM types but they were by far in the minority.

FB really makes me hate my community but it's honestly so relieving to see people speaking out in favor of living.

He thinks he is. Our county has a really low increase in covid cases so he is just sure this year is going to go super awesome according to another email earlier this week.

However, we're now up to 2 staff members with positive tests. Nobody else needs to quarantine because to do so according to our plan, it has to fit all three criteria:

1. 6ft or closer contact
2. 15 minutes of contact
3. No masks

Basically, nobody will ever be quarantined after contact tracing. To make things even better, one of our 6 board members who helped with all these decisions is one of the directors at the local hospital.
