The one I remember is from Civ 4 (they may have gotten the wording a little wrong but this is as it was in the game):

"When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist."
-Dom Helder Camara

And in Civ 6 we get loving ronald reagan talking about :smug: the taxpayer :smug:

But if you just want to change the text, it's likely as easy as just changing the text in an XML file.

I think it was discussed on release but basically if people typed in "[name of wonder / tech] + quote" into Google, it would literally be something in the top 5 results that ended up as the quote.

The Kilimanjaro quote was from a college student's Thought Catalog post about her trip to Tanzania

So many of the tech quotes from the late game are complaints about the thing you just discovered. Like Industrialization:

"I think the Human race made a big mistake at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, we leaped for the mechanical things. People need the use of their hands to feel creative" - Andre Norton

Oh, you wanted workshops and factories? Big mistake, rear end in a top hat!

And era-appropriate natural wonder quotes would be nice, if only to get rid of the terrible ones for Kilimanjaro and Pantanal.

I think some of the quotes in the last three Civs have been really great. I think some of them are not good. Civ VI has the same proportion of goodness and badness of the others. Contemporary-with-the-tech quotes are an ok idea in theory, but in practice there sometimes aren't any (especially ancient), or don't have anything interesting to say, because we see those things differently in hindsight.

Humor is also polarizing because it's so subjective. For the most part, I think it's good in all the games, though I did get annoyed with the Nimoy Sputnik one, which was only funny the first time. The Kilimanjaro one doesn't trouble me, because it's different from the usual "wow, that sure is a big mountain, it makes me have feelings" from some poet.

Every Future Tech quote should be from Dan Quayle. (They used "The future will be better tomorrow" in Civ IV)

"I have made good judgements in the past. I have made good judgements in the future."

"It’s time for the human race to enter the solar system."

"We are ready for any unforseen event that may or may not occur."

I don't know, I think just with the Bible, the Qur'an, the Torah, epic of Gilgamesh, Homer and a few Chinese and Persian authors you could probably find a relevant and maybe even thought-provoking quote about every single tech and culture unlock from the ancient and classical eras.

EDIT: The Qur'an would be more early medieval than classical, but still, I'm pretty sure you have some folklore quoted in there to use.

Even if the quotes shed a different light on the subject in hindsight or go against contemporary beliefs, it would still provide for an interesting point of views on how people back then thought about it.

i just won a domination game (with hungary) for the first time in a civ game in maybe 15 years. becoming suzerain of every city-state and levying troops was so hilariously broken that i just decided to go for it. i also have no idea how people regularly play domination games, it's so mind-numbing just mass attacking with machine guns over and over again.

Moving armies before airports is so insanely slow and tedious, it's a big reason why I loathe going military focused. Hell even with airports it's tedious but at least they actually go a decent distance. The only time military is close to fun is defensively or on water heavy maps because naval units can actually move.

One of the great ironies of 1UPT is that in spite of having less units overall, just moving them around the map becomes so much more work than it should be. You've gotta deal with all these traffic jams, and you constantly have to reissue move orders to units every turn because other units get in their way and interrupt their route. Sometites it's enough to make me miss civ4 where you'd just bind your 40 units together in one big stack, hit move, and that was it.

Thats why I always says: bring back transport ships. And make land transport units too

Keep the current embarkment mechanic, since people love it (I dont), but give us an option to move a lot of units as one for when we have to cross the drat map with an army

I have said it before and will again - a front line system would be better. Can still do one unit per tile but then moving units and reinforcements would be consolidated and you expand out to one un it per tile when encountering another army.

It would be a radical change, but I've thought it would be interesting to have war events where technology slows down dramatically and you can fight a war without one side advancing from spearmen to bazookas.

It could even be a World Congress vote, where a "yes" means everyone goes to war along ideological lines.

I think the game plays better in general with a mod that drastically raises the cost of science and culture research. Wish it had scaled stuff instead of just a flat x3 or whatever multiplier because eventually you do get your research to crazy pace, but for that period of the game where techs can still take 12+ turns and your units can actually maneuver and be relevant are nice.

I just started using Zee's Properly Timed Eras and I love it so far. It increases the cost of technology more advanced than the in-game era, and lowers the cost of outdated technology. It's much harder to outrace the AI and keep a massive lead, and it makes it more worthwhile to study various branches of technology. I also love how the tech level makes sense on the calendar instead of having airplanes in the 1400s. Only issue I have is that it becomes too easy to achieve a Golden Age, but I hope to find a mod to fix that.

EDIT: tl;dr:

I've had a good time with Historic Speed which does similar stuff, I tweaked it a bit to increase unit costs because the map was just swarming with warriors after 50 turns but apart from that I've really enjoyed the re-balance. Also for anyone interested the tech quote replacement mod I was using is here.
