i can't stand kayaks. when i was a kid we had a canoe. everyone that saw it called it a canoe. when i was in scouts i went to the scout master's garage and helped him build another canoe that looked the same and everyone referred to as a canoe.

Nowadays those would both be called kayaks and canoes are something else. the world changed and nobody noticed it, it feels like on sliders where i've come back to another world thats only slightly the wrong one and whenever someone says kayak it reminds me my actual world is still out there somewhere.

Hmm I just went past a really dead cat. Looks like it got ran over by a truck, just gore and bits, should I bother trying to clean it up? Kinda feel bad if the owner or some kids find it

I think I've chickened out of doing it. It's quite far from my house and I don't think I have it in me to scoop the bits up and carry it in my deliveroo bag

contact a local vets because if it was chipped someone will want to know

my grans cat was mulched two villages away and she only found out because someone recognised it (it had a weird fluffy belly but otherwise pretty standard tabby) and the chip confirmed it

Depends what you want it for.

I've got 2 rigids (lol) and theyre great, but inflatables are really good now too, and pack up neat. Don't use in the sea, but fine in slow rivers or canal. Just don't get a cheap one from Lidl.

Even an inflatable one, with all the gear will need a car unless you live on the river's edge.

If you have a friend, get an inflatable each or a double, take individual cars to the end point, leave a car and then head to the start point. We did the Severn down from Shrewsbury this way and it was a great day.

i basically live next door to the river! I've hired kayaks a few times and from getting them over locks i reckon i could haul it down to the nearest place i could launch one from.

I'd just want it for short trips

How was the beach, crowds-wise? I'm really tempted to throw myself into the sea because London heat patch started doing it's thing and I'm rubbing (granite) balls I froze in the fridge around my face.

I was on the beach near Hove Lagoon and it was pretty crowded: there was just about enough room stay two metres away from everybody else, though that was at high tide (so there wasn't really much beach to speak of anyway.)

Oh, I think I'll skip it for this weekend as there are some vulnerable people be around where I'm staying so better camp in the garden with a book and hug the overexcited puppy.

Imma need some swimming badly, tho. Might try Hampstead Heath lake if it's open sometime later.
