The old customs remain
and the ancient gods live on
after buying 1782 on vinyl I realized the last track is a cover of "celestial voices" by pink floyd, which makes me wonder, why does it seem like every doom band out there wants to cover pink floyd?

Yeah, it really can't be stated enough how good King Buffalo is.

No idea, I always considered Pink Floyd to be the enemy.

I don’t think I really want to hear covers of pink Floyd but I guess I’m not usually a fan of covers in general.

Their first album is so good, plenty of heaviness

Check out their Quarantine sessions. Pretty much playing their discography in the studio ...

edit: Doom Side of the Moon is a guilty pleasure for me. Yes, it's dumb and totally unnecessary. It's my Taco Bell Burrito Supreme of goofball Stoner Doom. Magnetic Eye's The Wall Redux compilation/tribute album wasn't much better although it had some solid acts (Melvins, Spaceslug, Mark Lanegan, Pallbearer ...)

The Melvins cut completely takes the piss and works as a pretty great opener (for what it is).

Not really feeling the new REZN. Calm Black Water didnt really grab me like their debut album did, but they definitely nailed the feel on CBW with the synth sounds adding a lot to the deep sea themes of the album.

curious to see what the whole album is like, though.

I do however concur on never getting into baroness. It’s just never really stuck for me. Mastodon however.. Leviathan, blood mountain, and crack the skye are near perfect records and I will argue with people over that fact :colbert:

Also Brann is an absolute beast on drums.

However there is one key ingredient to all of Mastodon’s best songs: Scott Kelly

I do find it incredibly cool that Brann and Scott bonded when today is the day toured with neurosis to the point that Scott Kelly is routine called up (and agrees) to guesting on songs. Turning them into Mastodons best songs.

More than any other concert this year (aside from hitting Wacken) I was looking forward to and hoping for a Neurosis west coast outing. Didn't get to see them play in my area in 2019 so I figured I would get to this year. gently caress off covid
