Been that for a few years.

Also it's bizarre to think that Panasonic are exiting the TV market completely. Maybe they really think they can bring in the $$$ purely on reviving Technics turntables. Pioneer may as well fire up some LaserDisc factories in turn (pls do as I need some parts)

On the new car front: still absolutely nothing! Had a nice R34 GTT worked extremely well lined up and got ghosted. Even a G36 cos maybe why not try a luxury skyline and ghosted the day before my friend was set to inspect for me. No luck with the Imprezas, no luck with SV6s. Even dealers are actively not wanting to sell poo poo. Oh and a dealer local that had a car 'in stock' which I went to check out and is infact not in stock and actually in another company lot entirely 1000kms away.

Also mums husband who has no idea on cars put his big boy pants on and bought his own car for first time in ages with no help. 2 weeks later it's blown the block and he has zero recourse for compensation from what I can get out of my parents.

Set up an alert on slickdeals.

I would, but I kinda need one now since my Vizio is going in my newly renovated screened in porch, and I don't really wanna wait around for sales to happen.

Of course as soon as I buy one tho, it will be on sale the next week, Murphy's law :v:

Maybe more my fault for leaving it on sometimes while hosting a game and taking a break, but I never thought once it could be an issue with LCD. Definitely won't be doing that with the new TV.

That being said, I really don't game that much to begin with, maybe a few hours a week so I was pretty disappointed with that happening.

I really want to get a new TV but I just bought a new washer and dryer so I'm going to wait until my next quarterly bonus to pull the trigger.

I also currently do not have a surface to put a TV on because Ikea delayed my order because of Covid :( - I just want my lovely furniture dammit!

Like I read that. I waited until it was dry to add more beause I thought that was the right thing to do. I actually busted rear end doing this the right way (I thought) but that very well may be what happened.

I have not bought a TV since we built and moved into our house seven years ago. I bought a 55" Samsung LCD, 1080P. I bought it from Costco and it was such a good deal at like $1100. How wonderfully naive. The problem is it still works, and what is the point of getting a bigger TV? I just walk downstairs and I have a 110" screen for the media room. I don't do gaming and don't even bother with live sports. It will probably take an errant Switch joy-con getting thrown through the TV that makes me consider a new panel. I will probably go to 65 should this ever die.

Also I'm over the cheap TVs that's what my current Vizio is, I can afford a nice one now so I'm gonna splurge on OLED. And from what I've seen OLEDs should last a lot longer than LCD/LED so it will be worth it in the long run.

TV chat. Best way to recycle old (LCD) TVs?

Long version: I have a 43" Toshiba that has issues for the first 15 minutes or so it's on (lots of purple lines through the picture, then poof they're gone and it's fine.. but the backlight is really dim now), and a 32" Samsung that only has a functional backlight if you unplug it to turn it off. Every. Single. Time. If you use the remote, no backlight next time you use it. I've fixed the Samsung twice now (the inverter is part of the main power supply on that one), but it's old enough that finding working power supplies on ebay is getting difficult (and at this point it'd be cheaper to just replace it).

Hey guys,

I know this isn't computer thread, but I am looking for a little mini-PC. I respect your guys opinion and I'd appreciate your input. It would not be my daily, go to PC (9900K for that) and just be truly secondary, maybe a guest PC if we have company. Nothing hardcore.. browsing, vids, I suppose maybe the most basic gaming but obviously nothing serious.

I think I have it narrowed down to 2 and would like opinion: (just looked at Amazon for ease of customer service if it goes sideways).

Option 1:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07J2TFW5T/ref=crt_ewc_title_dp_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A38VQAZY823I7W
e: Linked wrong one first

quote:

HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Mini Business Desktop PC Intel Quad-Core i5-6500T up to 3.1G,8G DDR4,240G SSD,VGA,DP port,Windows 10 Professional 64 Bit-Multi-Language-English/Spanish (Renewed)

Option 2:

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B087BGDWTY/ref=crt_ewc_title_dp_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AMSFF11DD0K5A

quote:

Beelink U57 Mini PC with Intel Core i5-5257u Processor(up to 3.10 GHz)&Windows 10 Pro,8G DDR3/128G SSD High Performance Business Desktop Computer,4K UHD,2.4G/5G Dual WiFi,BT4.0,Dual HDMI Ports

Option 1 seems like a better deal to me on its face, but being a "refurb" I'm not sure how much of a detraction that would be.

Pros:
Skylake vs Broadwell
Name brand (better hardware?)
Probably a legit Win 10 license... I am under the impression these chinese mini-PCs are typically not legit serials. C/D?
240GBSSD vs 128GB SSD
DDR4 vs DDR3
*may* come with basic KBM, but I'm not planing on it.

Cons:
Refurb vs new
No HDMI (looks like just DP and VGA)

Thoughts?

I did go to ebay to check pricing and really by the time you have any shipping in there it's pretty similar. So adding in the ease of returning it in case it's junk has some value with me.

If airflow is weak but temp drop across the a-coil is sufficient, you may be undersized on the blower and/or have dirty ducts. Airflow is I think often very underlooked compared to tonnage when evaluating system size, but I think it’s way more important. You may be able to replace the blower with something higher CFM fairly inexpensively, and they’re usually super easy to pull.

May be worth investigating. It's really only a problem like one month out of the year, though we do have a window unit in our bedroom because airflow is so poor, and the inside unit is literally across the house, almost as far away from the bedroom as possible. What I'm saying is it is NOT "central air". Also my wife likes it practically freezing when she sleeps, and I'm not paying to cool the entire house to 65 degF.

You don't wait until it's dry to do another coat. You wait until it tacks. It should give you a "recoat" window on the instructions.
If it's just rubbing off like that, you were probably too far from the surface with the can, and the paint was drying in the air.

I tend toward one heavy coat, then a second lighter coat to make sure I didn't miss anything, on single-stage paint, anyway.

Option 1 seems like a better deal to me on its face, but being a "refurb" I'm not sure how much of a detraction that would be.

DP to HDMI adapters are cheap. And in the case of office-grade computers that are a couple of years old, "refurb" usually just means it's an off-lease return with an OS license added on (since enterprise stuff is normally on a volume license). Sometimes they might wipe the dust off of the outside if you're lucky, but it's usually just "it boots? okay, toss an OEM copy of Windows on it, ship it". It's a good way to get a compact, higher quality but not top performing, PC for pretty cheap, so long as you don't mind cleaning them out a bit (usually pretty dusty).

(the one you linked is "Renewed" and from the actual HP storefront on Amazon?)

HP's consumer-grade stuff is junk. Their enterprise stuff is good. Hell I still have an old HP Core2Duo enterprise desktop sitting here, used it as a HTPC for several years. It's never had a hiccup, though I promptly replaced the original HDD with a SSD. It's old, but reliable, and works fine as a garage PC (it's a DC7700, so ~14 years old... I do have a spare PSU for it somewhere, but haven't needed it).

Hmmm.. it does have an add-on video card with HDMI. Maybe I just found a new use for that flaky Samsung TV. Wall mount it, turn it off by the power strip, use it as a monitor till it dies. The nearly as old Dell LCD I have on it has a small crack that irritates me.

It's closed until further notice due to COVID. :sigh: They'll do chemical/hazardous waste collection curbside if you request it, but not e-waste. I'm not paying to recycling them, they'll just sit in the garage until the city opens their recycling center again I guess.

I think it was the 2018 model as the OS is something weird which can be a bit lovely but it does work (except the amazon prime app - but I just use a chromecast or a media PC instead much of the time anyway)
In the UK you can get them with a 6 year warranty from richer sounds so I know my under £400 TV is gonna last for atleast 6 years which is nice.

I couldn't see the lines hardly for poo poo, high beams made the blindness worse, you didn't dare stop cause you'd never know where on the road you stopped and where anyone else was driving, and I couldn't find any exits. So I carried on down the center of the highway, keeping the dotted center line in the middle of the car. It was the only way to know I was still on the road, just creeping along at whatever speed I figured at the moment would keep me from getting slammed from behind, and yet could keep from slamming someone else from behind should I come up on them. When I came out the other side I half-expected to find a tiger named Richard Parker in the backseat.

43% is astonishing. That's mostly dent corn, correct?
