here is a lovely forest of what I believe are Sitka Spruce trees on the oregon coast, these ones are all windswept lookin

and these ones are a few layers in so they look more normal, this mountain was also generating a cloud from the ocean breeze on an otherwise sunny day so it looked all misty and cool inside

gorgeous photos alnilam. looks like it smelled great out there too. if someone made an air freshener that smelled like trees i bet they could make a fortune.

they usually die pretty quick after using up the energy from the seed, since there's no chlorophyll :( but some survive as parasites, like the albino redwoods. This is a spotted wintergreen though, so it probably died unless it shares a root system with a regular one

Wow i wish i had a battery powered UV light to carry with me in the woods to find creepy crawlies!!!

That is very neat. I think fluorescence is a useful way to ID some mushrooms too? It can be useful in wood identification too.

Featuring both plants and animals, namely an owl of species unknown, a live oak tree, some camellias, a magnolia tree, some hydrangeas, some elephant ears, some grass, a gardenia, a turk's cap mallow and divers assorted other plants and animals.

those are sundews. a little hard to see on my crappy cell phone photo, but the sort of star-shaped red plant (at the upper left) with round pads at the end of its stalks has a bunch of hairs that have tiny beads of moisture at the tips. these are actually very sticky, and insects that touch them will become stuck and the plants can digest them (they use insects for nutrients that are not available in the soil).

there are some rather disturbing time lapse videos on youtube that show various types of sundew (they come in a bunch of different shapes) curling around a trapped insect as it struggles

He's just a nervous wet babby crossing the road after his mamma and sister. We came around the corner and saw a pickup truck on the other stopped on the other side of the road and were like oh hold up there's animals near the road... Lo and behold grizzly fam suckin up every dandelion in the surrounding area. I can't quite remember the sequence of events but I think mom had crossed the road and the kids as usual were lagging behind, and she was like get your asses over here! We went into the park shop nearby a while after and were giddily asking if they'd seen the bears and they were like "oh that's just [bear designator H37 (or something like that)], she's a pretty common sight around here." Mom had a radio collar IIRC.

Prof. Crocodile

saw another ninja frog you guys. starting to get a lil worried tbqh. frogs may be up to something...

Prof. Crocodile

saw some deer on a bike ride through the suburbs today. they were probably on the way to trader joes or something.

I have no idea what they are, they are not chanterelles, they could maybe be jack o lantern mushrooms I suppose. that would be cool, those things glow in the dark!
