Could I get some recommendations for great horror OST? I'm making musical intermissions for the streams. Speaking of which, this is happening tomorrow. I've also updated the times slightly. Debbie Does Dagon posted:SUNDAY Megastream, on the CineD Discord

Anyone planning their October challenge line-up yet? This will be my first one and I'm excited as can be The thing missing from my horror experience is oldies. I'm kind of ashamed to say that I'm a staunchly 70s onward horror guy and I've never seen the appeal of films older than that. If it wasn't for Psycho, The Birds, and Rosemary's Baby i would have nothing pre-70s in my viewing history. What a great time to fix that! I built a shortlist of everything with an 80+ predicted score on Criticker that's tagged as horror from The Cabinet of Dr Cagliari (1920) to The Cremator (1969). I haven't looked into how accessible any of this stuff is, but hopefully with a shortlist of 76 movies I'll be able to find 31 that are readily available. Here's the shortlist I'd love to hear about any obvious omissions, or stuff that I've included that might secretly be crap

This will be my third October marathon, the trick is variety in sub-genre, release date and movies you've seen/haven't seen. I browsed your list, and it seems like you've pigeonholed yourself into a particular era. What happens when that specific time period gets stale? Burnout is a terrible thing when applied to one's passions. Maybe throw in some sure-fire bangers as navigation buoys? Open strong with something like Mandy or the original Halloween, and then alternate between films you enjoy but haven't seen in awhile and fresh viewings. My personal blend is something like 50% enjoyment/50% discovery. I know I can weather absurd story lines or cheap production values if I have a real meal to look forward to.

This is good advice, and for some reason I'd got the idea that all the movies should be new to me. I'll take 15 spread across that 50 year span as much as possible and mix in some of my existing faves or more modern stuff on my unwatched list. I'm very prone to burnout, almost certainly because I'm an all or nothing sort of person, so genuinely thanks for spotting that trap I'd set for myself

My criteria for October this year: -haven't seen it -under 700 votes on imdb -doesn't look like garbage https://letterboxd.com/gackt/list/october-challenge/ I've mostly gone old and foreign so far, more recent DTV stuff satisfies the votes but is too much of a wild card for the not garbage part.

I'm very likely going to repeat what I did in the April challenge, and choose films based solely on their posters. I want to know as little as possible about each film going in, other than the fact that they're: 1. Horror 2. Not actual porn 3. Vaguely fit whatever theme I'm going for Last time I did queer cinema, and I'm very tempted to repeat that theme again. I'm also thinking about going for a world tour theme, and have each film be from a different country. Perhaps I'll smush those two themes together wherever possible? I'll see what shakes out. e: Thank you everyone for your music suggestions!

Judging a horror movie by it's poster is worse than judging a book by it's cover. The cover of a book will at least usually have a vague significance to the plot or main theme. With horror it's just a total grab bag, often with the wildest posters trying to compensate for a dull movie.

A grab bag is exactly what I want. Last challenge I was watching everything from films made by a few friends over a weekend, to arthouse classics, and obscure Troma joints. It was a ton of fun, and never got boring. https://letterboxd.com/debbiedoesdagon/list/april-horror-challenge/ Note: Some of these films are also thread suggestions

I've been really rigid with October with my years for a few years now. So I think I'm just keeping it loose this time. I have my personal watchlist. I have my Letterboxd watchlist. I have the long list of movies nominated for the Directors Tourney that never got a chance. I'll just wing it this time around and watch what I feel. I'm thinking of doing an Inktober thing where I try and do art with movies, but that's an ambitious side thing that no one else would care about.

Werewolf chat: I just remembered a film I discovered during the April challenge, called Jack & Diane. It's a coming of age lesbian/summer romance, and it uses lycanthropy as a way of demonstrating emotional turmoil. If you go in expecting Horror you'll probably be disappointed, but if you want to watch a romance that randomly descends into Tetsuo: The Iron Man-inspired werewolf vignettes, and never really pays them off, then this might be the film for you.Kvlt! posted:wrong id like to see inktober i love when people post their horror art itt

I've been keeping a list on my phone of horror movies that sound interesting through the year and I have enough to just pick whatever sounds best at the time during the challenge. In the midst of a global pandemic it's really nice to have something to look forward to that is indoors and doesn't require meeting with other people. I'm looking forward to it.

Are there any horror movies about married couples that aren't metaphors for a failing (or at least extremely strained) relationship and where the couple generally have each other's backs?

Here's what I could think of off the top of my head: The main couple in Us have a happy marriage, and a good relationship with their two kids. In real life Ed and Lorraine Warren are horrible con artists, but the film versions of them in The Conjuring series of films are a loving and supportive couple. Both of the main married couples in Parasite love each other, and so does the secret third one.
