I tweeted yesterday about how it's perverse that the cost of travelling by train has risen above inflation but fuel tax has been cut in real terms since 2010, and I got someone with an XR avatar saying I had a London-centric mindset. I mean, in nominal terms, fuel tax is less now than it was on October 1st, 2010, whereas rail fares are 33-50% higher (depending on type of ticket).

Yes, the UK has scads of available land, whereas Texas is not big at all and should focus on horribly inefficient train travel for everyday commuters.
