I don't think he's getting green this year.

I was expecting this break to have about a minute by now. They might have looked like they were motoring earlier but the gap hasn't closed.

I'm betting it gets pulled back pretty quickly soonish.

Those guys have been in a break for 170km and now it's going uphill.

We had not left it yet, but when I would wake in the night, I would lie, listening, homesick for it already.

Ineos probably keeping it slower on purpose, good for them if the break stays away and avoids any Roglic bonus seconds

Powless looks great and GvA hanging on in this climb for as long as he did surprised me.

I'm hoping I'm wrong about the break getting caught. I really thought they didn't have much of a chance at the start.

Really, van Avermaet with an attack following Powless all the way up?

Yeah bit of a stinker of a stage in the end, everyone seems worried about expending energy this week.

Or until the gendarmes arrest them for trying to murder every other sprinter except Sagan.

Pure sprinters being dropped is definitely one of the best parts of bike racing.

Well they've easily got the gap for the intermediate already and they're still pushing downhill, so I guess they're in this for the long haul.

Who's off the back? Watching without commentary whilst pretending to work

moctopus

There's two groups (and a ton of people) behind the Peloton, but I'll highlight some sprinters.

Bennett and his green jersey are about 4 minutes behind.

Hirschi, Viviani, Kristoff, Ewan, and Greipel are about 7 minutes behind.

It's going downhill (and a tailwind?) now so I don't think they're gonna be able to force anyone out, but some of the big name sprinters are gonna feel it in the coming days.

I don't know if he'll survive, but pretty good timing. Bora is probably tired, the gc teams probably don't want to do any work, and the other teams probably don't want to put additional pressure on the two groups behind. Not sure what Ewan would think about it though.

It should also add to tomorrow's stage when we get to the Pyrenees, which was already one to watch. A TON of people will want to be in the break to prove something.
