I have no reason to believe she's making anything up here, while she may be acting in the delivery the story is real. And she also finished the stream by asking how she can make it clearer to international viewers that she's not telling horror stories, because she's not. I like the character Polka is acting. Energetic, ridiculous, and a clown. But even when she's acting, her likes and dislikes, skills and weaknesses, personal obsessions, and past experiences, are genuine not superficial, and there's a big overlap between what she likes and what I like. That stream was actually part of why I formed that opinion. When Polka the person shines through, she is really loving sombre, even melancholic, which really clashes with Polka the character, who usually acts as chaos gremlin extraordinaire. See also that stream with Botan where she said she wants to die young because she doesn't want to get too old and become useless. There is distance between the character and the person there, that's kinda unusual compared to almost every other hololive member. Oh, and also I have minimal understanding of Japanese and pretty much rely on translations (and on what the translators actually decide to cover), so those are just my impressions and I'm almost certainly completely talking out of my rear end here.

There is the adage about the clown crying behind the mask, and that may actually also be part of her character? I don't know for sure, but you could say that when Polka is "on stage" (streaming games, answering Marshmallow questions, etc) she's doing the clown character, but then occasionally she takes us back-stage and drops the mask. I should try also covering some of her "planning meetings" she's had.

Oh yeah, the whole "clown crying behind the mask" is certainly something that crossed my mind as well. That would be quite a interesting direction to take the character in, but I think she is not quite there yet. Also if you decide to translate other thing from her channel, I'll be certainly looking forward to it, she is a fun character to figure out and I think I actually like her serious side more.

I have been watching Coco streams lately and drat, she's the nerd-whisperer, a true wallet-milking virtuoso. She already has like a billion different little rituals among her viewers where they give her a little bit of extra cash. Even the other girls with lots of super-chat action (like Rushia, who is also drat good at that) get a bit confused when the tatsunokos arrive. Why are they donating? why is the chat blue? what is happening here? And the most amazing thing is that it's all pretty organic, it's not like she has a formula to get the SCs, it all comes naturally.
