AWR did amazingly good versions of And You and I and Awaken.

Anderson's speaking voice seems a bit higher than it used to be.

Here he is speaking about Olias of Sunhillow in 1986

Not saying they're phoning it in, but I saw BOC at a casino a few years back and Buck Dharma literally checked his watch just before the Reaper solo to see how much time was left in their set.

It’s just Eric and Buck left of the original band. Though in that video Albert Bouchard makes an appearance playing cowbell. That video is something, the other guitarist directed and did the Visual effects on it.

The Bouchard bro’s were an underrated hard rock rhythm section. Though I listened to those first two albums kinda recently, cause it had been years and I loved them as a kid. Left unimpressed.

Deep Purple also has a new album out. It seems less proggy than their last two I guess - I mean the songs are shorter overall but they still manage to do some interesting things with them. Ian Paice is the last original member although Roger Glover and Ian Gillan go back so far that it's not much of a point. Aside from all that, I must say that Steve Morse and Don Airey really do some amazing things for this band.

man, i did not realize that genesis's period after they'd moved away from prog but before they actually became a pop band is... really good? i've never been able to get into their peter gabriel-era stuff (which i feel bad about because i like his solo work), and just always figured i wouldn't really like anything after that. but duke and abacab are the exact type of pop-prog that i love

they have a live album from this period called three sides live that i've listened to a few times now. did not think 2020 would be the year i got into genesis but here i am i guess!!

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual.

It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.

Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock.

Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word *artist*.

Not many.

It's the reason why I axed the prog format for my radio show and just went freeform; it's become increasingly difficult to find new prog that slaps.

I think it was that new Pendragon album that was the final straw for me. I'm not listening to anything where the singer's telling me to read a book.

Any prog songs to encourage a relatively newbie to bass to learn? Not a music newbie by all means so time signatures and such are fine, just a newbie when it comes to the bass itself.
