Membership figures release, Lions haven't cracked 30k despite being in the top 4 all year and Qld getting the grand final, but the Roos have 38k and the Dees have held onto 40k. Eagles have broken the 100k members mark.

Held onto 40k but had an almost 30% drop from last year. Essendon the only other club that had remotely that big a drop in %

Been sad all day with the rumours of Kreuzer retiring and then having it confirmed this morning. We've missed him so much in games, we've got TDK and Pittonet coming up but Kreuz is still our #1 ruck. He'd be playing his final season next year too if it wasn't for list size reductions. He never had a proper run of consistency, except his ~55 game unbroken streak from debut, played only 180 games, missed 100 potential games via injury and kicked almost 100 goals, he never gave up. Should be a 200+ gamer with an AA or two (they gave it to Ryder one year over Kreuzer because he did well against Carlton, when Kreuz wasn't even playing, Matthew Lloyd admitted) And I fear Simpson will be forced out this year too, while in his peak these past two seasons. gently caress 2020, a lot of players with a season or three left in them will be forced out by clubs if the list size rumour of 40 is correct. And most fans won't get to go to farewell games. And I watched the bryce gibbs retirement presser, he's being forced out by the crows against his wishes, he obviously wants to play on and has a year on his contract. It just didn't work out for him there, played out of position right as the crows began their downfall. Obviously they have to play the kids, but he could have helped a struggling team this year in a few more matches. He never wanted to go to SA, he could have walked the year before the crows made their first offer, he signed a contract extension instead. He returned home for family/off field matters. That presser was hard to watch. Anyway, how good is footy? https://twitter.com/RPCVic/status/1303963106326884352 drunkill fucked around with this message at 15:48 on Sep 10, 2020 |

AFL can gently caress off making the WA hub obsolete then making the WA teams play with multiple 4 day breaks while everyone else gets 5+ Eat a bag of dicks Gil

I'll honestly give up on AFL if this happens. This season has proven to me that 17 games is the way to go. Play every other team once. Alternate home games every second year, or roll it over a 4 year period or something so it evens out. I usually get footy fatigue around Rounds 14-18 where I just don't care about any teams except my own. If your team stinks and is gonna miss finals by this point of the season then generally you'll be checking out too. Sure, it's less money, but that's also less wages paid in the form of match fees. If the AFL set up a proper reserves league, surely they'd get more viewers for the reserves game, and can use that as leverage in bargaining agreements?

Shorter quarters than what we currently have? I'm not sure that's going to make for great footy.

Shorten the season and start it later, and extend the AFLW season accordingly. And make the quarters the length they were before this year you maniac.

8 minute quarters, 3 rounds, all rounds occur on the same night followed by a grand final

Solemn Sloth posted:8 minute quarters, 3 rounds, all rounds occur on the same night followed by a grand final Build 9 footy ovals in a big chain so they are joined at the end and share goal posts. Play all games simultaneously and when a goal or point is kicked the ball transitions to the new ground meaning we can finally have a true chaos ball in the game. If a ground does not have a ball on it then play is stopped until a new ball enters play via a score being kicked on an adjoining ground. I have not thought this plan through but I'm sure it will work and that I have given it the same level of thought as AFL HQ gives all their decisions.

If 2020 has thought me anything, it’s that short quarters are bad. Make it a 17 game season with two extended bye rounds, and proper long games. Make a wildcard 8th spot if need be to get some more games in.
