Could we calm down and at least agree than having problems or reservations about this film doesn't make you QAnon and defending this film as a piece of art doesn't make you a pedophile? That seems like a reasonable place to start a discussion.

And I distinctly remember, at the time, they were learning a routine to the song "Lose Control" by Missy Elliott feat. Ciara. The dance you did is play-acting a zombie. Getting little girls to play-act a sexually available adult is a totally different kettle of fish. I spent years in after school dancing. It's very fun, and great exercise for kids. However there's an adult teaching the steps; I would, now as an adult, feel extremely violated by the teacher if my primary aged dancing was overtly sexual. I ran around unself-consciously in a leotard for dancing, which was fine for practice, but as an adult, I wonder if there weren't a bunch of creeps in the audience for the end of year performance.

Emily Ratajkowski wrote a really depressing article about male entitlement and appropriation of her body and images of it. https://www.thecut.com/article/emily-ratajkowski-owning-my-image-essay.html It includes a graphic account of an assault by Johnathan Leder who says this while he's photographing her: quote:“iCarly,” Jonathan said, smirking as he shot. Only his mouth was visible, the rest of his face eclipsed by his camera. That was the name of the Nickelodeon show I’d been on for two episodes while in high school. Also an artist who blows up Instagram photos and sells them for tens of thousands of dollars with puerile captions. quote:Prince’s comment on that post, included among several others at the bottom of the painting, alludes to an imagined day he has spent with me on the beach: “U told me the truth. U lost the [anchor emoji]. No hurt. No upset. All energy bunny now that it’s sunny,” it reads. I liked the comment he left on this one far better than his comment on the black-and-white study, where he asks, “Were you built in a science lab by teenage boys?”

And despite only signing a contract for the pictures that were going in a magazine article, Leder put out a book full of explicit nude photographs from the shoot. Two books in fact. She could prove she nor her agent signed any consent for the publication of additional photos, Leder just forged one. Lawyers told her the case would be a waste of time because the books were too close to publication and the best she could hope for was a percentage of the sales.

It's really depressing to realize that even at that level there's the the tacit assumption that everyone is acting in good faith, and when they don't getting justice or restitution is a massive uphill battle that only the wealthiest and most powerful can even entertain the idea or fighting. Someone forges a contract and sells explicit photos of you: Sure you have proof, but he'll just sell it anyways, best you can do is take your cut of the $$$

I liked that show and he was a pretty endearing member of the team. Supposedly it all happened when he was a teenager which DOES NOT excuse him from what he did, and I can only hope the 13 y/o has found peace or will soon. Seeing your abuser on screen being portrayed in a positive light must be just terrible.

yeah that one is a surprise, he was truly presented as one of the heroes of the show - a lot of the other people on it were kind of darkly intense or under the spell of a cult leader figure. He was just a really positive guy with a sunny disposition. Just goes to show that it's not always shady dudes in trenchcoats.

He was just a really positive guy with a sunny disposition. Just goes to show that it's not always shady dudes in trenchcoats. It's almost never shady dudes in trenchcoats. It's almost never some creepy drifter who leers at girls outside the malt shop. It's almost never the skeevy perv who the whole town says is bad news. Breaking the myth of stranger danger is extremely important in teaching children how to be aware and safe when it comes to inappropriate behavior from adults. The vast majority of the time its someone they've been conditioned to obey and who has the implicit trust of the family and community. Tons of the stories of child abuse in Hollywood are a result of the kids being left/watched by a trusted person who then abuses them. A doctor, a relative, a person of prestige and privilege with impeccable reputation, etc. Secret pedophiles aren't lurking around set trying to snatch children, duct tape their mouths and then hide it with a mask to traffic them. They're just having children handed over to their care by trusting and unsuspecting parents. The biggest threat has never been a stranger offering free candy, its the family friend you've been told to listen to and respect doing something abusive and then telling you in anyone finds out they will kill your parents. pentyne fucked around with this message at 01:11 on Sep 18, 2020 |

My wife's grandfather abused her sisters when they were pre-teens, but just recently a car with two strangers drove along the playground at my daughter's (6) school repeatedly trying to lure kids in. We've had those kind of talks with our kids before, but it's really awful going to work every day with that poo poo in your head.
