I see the whole "If only artists drew their men as sexy as their women" thing a lot but it feels like such a hollow argument. Because I mean Murata frequently draws the guys to show they're hot or whatever but that doesn't change the fact that some of the fanservice in this comic is bad. Like, let's say Garou also got groped by a weird flesh monster or something, that wouldn't really make the poo poo with Psykos any better.

Itd be easier to stomach if it was equal oppurtunity horny. Like If for every panel with a faceful of Fubuki butt we get licenseless rider in a tom of finland situation. As it stands yeah the male characters are buff'n'handsome but theyre not drawn like a pinup 99% (outside of covers with garou) of the time like the women, who get perspective angles and poses like a playboy photoshoot.

The big difference in these cases is usually that the representation of men is respectful whereas for women it's more objectifying or disrespectful. See: Garou/PPP/Darkshine with well-defined abs and a granite body, vs basically just T&A for women. Murata handles it well sometimes but things like the above stuff is just disrespectful.

I cant selectively turn off my eyes when reading the manga, and what I see is the usual supermodel female designs often drawn in ways that emphasize these traits and male characters being drawn in ways that emphasize what theyre doing. You cant even ignore it since its front and center so much of the time. It doesnt serve the mangas tone nor its characterization. Its completely superfluous for any purpose but titillation and its affecting my enjoyment of the manga. Hence why I say, Equal oppurtunity horny would make it easier to stomach. Otherwise is just witchblade/red sonja all over again.

Actually Hajime no Ippo is very good with this topic, in my eyes. Putting aside the fact that all main characters are male because its about male boxing, there are repeated super dumb dick jokes and bro's talking about ho's, but its presented in a harmless teenager locker room talk sort of way. Crucially, the locker room talk stays in the locker room, and the vast majority of female characters are characters and not sex objects. I could be wrong but thats my hot take.

You can have a large breasted character. That is not an inherently sexual trait. Say you spend an entire chapter with panels that focus on those large breasts in various states of clothedness and being groped. That is sexualization. Which is why I pointed out how tbe characters are drawn panel-to-panel, rather than their design. I dont want for there to be objectification, but if yalls horny at least acknowledge lopsided portrayals in stories that arent meant to be erotic, and how they can damage the tone and mood of it. I think Murata should draw whatever he feels like drawing and the people who are complaining about pacing should just take a break and come back in a few months. The series is on its 23rd book right now. To put that into perspective, by this same point HxH was midway through the Chimera Ant arc and Berserk was beginning the Millennium Falcon arc. In any story this long there's inevitably going to be some less interesting or downright boring parts.
