Powered Descent posted:VCR board games are an odd little historical artifact. They almost never actually use the video part for anything (it's just there so you can see the announcer/host/whatever), so the concept could easily have been done radio-show style and invented at any point since the invention of the LP phonograph record. The Clue games were kind of good, and included the actual video part. Here's the video of the first one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDSscSbLQD0 The first 12 minutes of it describes how you play the game, which is basically using clues that reference the video parts to figure out the murderer.

Can't imagine this will bode any better. Nobody associates Paramount properties with Paramount. Oh and just so people know, a stool fucker is a term in comedy, it wasn't insulting people here. It's literally someone who humps the stool during a stand up routine. Even though insulting is explicitly allowed by the rules of the forum...

ViacomCBS wants to roll out their service globally, and CBS is not a well known brand outside of America. I think it makes sense and is better than CBS All Access as a name.

In case it wasn't obvious from my early post, I would very much like the bij gangtag. And I hope the paramount+ icon does the spinny stars thing.

Bilirubin posted:So I just rewatched The Omega Directive this evening and its a legit candidate for The Burn(am) IMO The Omega Particle was simultaneously one of the stupidest AND scariest things Voyager ever did. I wish we had maybe one more series set in the 24th century before the franchise hit the iceburg with Nemesis and Enterprise because it kind of needed maybe one more episode or so to really explore the implications of what happens you make an Omega and it goes absolutely horrifyingly wrong. Star Trek: Armada brings it back as the McGuffin for the back half of its plot, but it leaves out the "this thing is hella unstable and makes FTL travel impossible for hundreds of lightyears if it explodes" part of the equation and just had it be a super power source that the Borg are after.

Super Deuce posted:Can't imagine this will bode any better. Nobody associates Paramount properties with Paramount. Paramount is a recognisable movie brand, whereas the only reason I know CBS even exists is because (people make fun) of CBS All Access - and I have no idea what kind of programming it does other than Discovery. Paramount I would assume from the name would have a bunch of good movies at least, even if I can't specifically recall which ones Paramount are responsible for.

Whoever posted UPN+ hit the nail on the head I think. The only way this decision makes sense for me is if Paramount is going to be putting their first-run movies up on the streaming service as well, since basically nobody is going to cinemas because of the pandemic, and the writing was sorta on the wall for cinemas anyway.

Strong Convections posted:Maybe they're planning to go international? CBS is largely known for police procedurals or Special Police procedurals with titles that are just sprinklings of capital letters like CSI, JAG, or NCIS, and reality shows like Big Brother and Survivor. It was also largely known and mocked for having an audience with an average age in their 70s like ten years ago, so it was basically the Boomer Network, and still is in a lot of way. I'm legit surprised that Discovery is actually getting a TV run on CBS because for a long time CBS was deathly adverse to science fiction and/or high concept shows, to the point where it tried to smother Person of Interest with a pillow for years before they finally killed it in 2017. CBS was also run by Les "The Man Who Killed Star Trek" Moonves, who had said on record multiple times that he hated science fiction television and had been gunning to kill Trek on TV for years when he was the head of UPN. It's almost a miraculous coincidence that shortly after he was fired for being a sexual predator, suddenly a million Trek shows blossom into existence after a decade of static. So yeah, cutting the association with CBS is a net benefit because CBS loving sucks. Senor Tron posted:The words of a weak coward. Ah! I see someone seeks a one-way express trip to Sto'Vo'Kor!
