Subaru might be functionally immortal but he can only be in one place at any time and his power only cares about his life and outcome. So pick, mansion or the sanctuary and live with the decision. It would also fit in thematically with the start of the season, first he got trapped on a timeline he didn't want, now he needs to chose one

Anime only hypothesis: Roswall, knowing the rebirth situation, is setting up scenarios that is forcing Subaru to complete the tasks. This is why things keep getting harder and harder when Subaru figures out how to solve something but ultimately isn't doing what Roswall wants, which is probably the resurrection of Echidna via the clone machine. The more Subaru tries to resolve the issues back at the mansion, the more Roswall forces the issue back in the Sanctuary. He also may literally behind everything, including hiring Elsa etc to take out the people back in the mansion and village to force the situation. Like, Subaru cannot resolve the problems at the mansion because everyone that can help him are tied up at the Sanctuary and the other people who will help him cannot handle the assassins themselves. So if Subaru simply completes the tasks for Echidna, Roswall won't summon the snow, which won't summon the rabbits, and everyone can leave the sanctuary. If Roswall is behind Elsa, then things stop there. If he isn't, then perhaps Roswall / Rabbit army / Garfield / Puck (wherever he is) / Echidna can resolve the issues back at the mansion.

My hypothesis on Roswaal's goal: Make Emillia more and more dependent on Subaru. Isolate her until he is literally the only thing she has. Make it so severe that she resents any attention he gives to anyone else, in other words she becomes envious of anyone else but her receiving his attention. She showed a little sign of this with one of her last lines before he died, "I only want you to push yourself too hard for me." All the while she had the witch's aura in her eyes and the same crazed look as Satella did when she appeared. Roswaal's goal is groom Emillia into a vessel for the witch of envy to return to.

What I want to know is whether Roswaal's copy of the gospel is still providing him a future unlike Beako's. I'm guessing so? Also, how many villagers are going to end up being moles? Seriously. That girl looked so much like a slightly older Typhon, for a second, I thought she was a vessel or something. My hypothesis (at least for this timeloop) kind of mirrors McGrady's. This is all going to have to come back to getting Emilia to complete the trials. She is what Subaru will have to focus on, and eventually, he'll find a way to get her to complete it w/o a mental breakdown on day 2 which will delay things enough (either through getting Roswaal to back off whatever poo poo he put in motion or getting Ryuzu out of the sanctuary in time to keep the Great Rabbit from locking on them) for them to haul rear end to the mansion and spit up to take Elsa and Maylie out. The fact that Roswaal is scared of Gar is enough to make me think he's strong enough on his own to take on either of them. All that said, I think we've gotten all the "pieces" for this loop, so to speak. And it is just a matter of Subaru focused on everything in the right order.

Mindblast posted:This episode also has potential implications some other things. Such as Subaru getting killed by the maids during the mansion arc was entirely instigated by Rem's distrust of him: - The first time he dies in his sleep from the curse. They considered him harmless and never took action. - The second time, after he's built up witch miasma, Rem spots him wandering the hallways at night and figures that's a good enough excuse to eliminate him on the spot. - The third time, after he's built up even more miasma, they spot him staking out the mansion from the woods. Seeing Rem getting too worked up while trying to get information out of him, Ram decides to swiftly end his suffering. - The fourth time he stays in his room for the duration, and absent any suspicious behavior and looking so pathetic, they actually feel sorry for him. Ram only gets aggressive after Rem dies, since from his reactions it apparent he has some idea of what happened. The key factor in that loop was managing to earn Rem's trust, a difficult task since she could detect the witch miasma and hated the cult with a passion since they massacred her village and cut off Ram's horn. Of note is that on the successful loop Roswaal suddenly went away on "urgent business" right as they were about to need him the most, only returning just in time to clean things up after Subaru had made his heroic stand.

Fat and Useless posted:I think Echidna updated his save after he smashed his head so as to remember her shenanigans if that's what you are talking about. No, Echidna can't update his save. She's outside time like him too though so it doesn't matter. Part of the deal for the first tea party was that he is unable to remember tea related shenanigans when not present at said tea party. Which is why at the second one, with remembering the effects the first had he strikes a trade to be able to keep those memories when he's outside of windowsXP. Also not a book reader, so my theory is that Satella is 100% dead for real, and in standard witch mythology fashion the formless shapeless power seeks a new host. Whomever that new host is isn't going to be Satella, but merely whomever it inhabits corrupted and twisted by the power. So Roswaal's goal here would be to stack the deck so the next vessel of envy can be returned to sanity and controlled. And the only way for that to happen is have Emilia and Subaru's bond be so strong that the power latches onto the bond. If the power gets passed to a madwoman then the worlds thrown into chaos again. So not only does Roswaal get to save the world he gets to be the power behind the demigod to get whatever his core desire is. To me its likely that the return by death is a very homestuck-esque retroactive timeloop as Envy knows who its in love with from the merger and brings that future to be in a very mindless fashion.

Also the Mabeasts that cursed Subaru to kill him initially (And probably the rest of them too) Were under the control of Maylie as she was the little village girl that carried the dog around.

Other conjectures: I am guessing it's Roswaal who hired Elsa, but it could easily be one of the other Apostles. Also I'm guessing Elsa maybe is an Apostle going based on how she just won't die. All the sins are pretty twisted so sure could be anyone of them. I'm not sure how she made it through being turned into a statue unless it's clones, body shifting, time travel, or something else with Apostle powers. Why did the gluttony and the other Apostle attack the convoy at the start of this story arc? Were they hired or told to do so? Also, could Emelia actually be Satella with her memory eaten away by gluttony? Probably won't find this out for until the end, but there has to be a reason she looks exactly like Satella and keeps getting possessed by the witch. Confronting her past is traumatizing because it suggests she's the witch or her daughter even though she has no memory of it. I need to rewatch the first season.

What I find potentially interesting for the future: Subaru gained I think a lot of power over Ros, Roswaal gave a lot of information to Subaru that Subaru gets to keep while his other parallel selves won't know they gave Subaru that knowledge. It's not like he can be blackmailed but Subaru I imagine now realizes more than ever that Roswaal isn't to be trusted and best worked around.
