Then for like 20 years nothing much happened until Newt Gingrich in the 90s decided, "Hey if we tell China about the free markets, they'll eventually have to 'leave' Communism" and China just went, "nope how about we do 'Capitalism' but with our own authoritarian twist and our 1 billion person leverage and then also sell lovely poo poo to the US cheaper than other countries?" and for the past 20 years have basically beaten the US at their own game. Wait is this why electronics in the 70s to mid 90s were all high quality stuff made in Japan and then sometime around 1999 everything became cheap poo poo made in China?

Trump scrambling at the last second to come up with something to actually give people in attempt to win their votes reminds me of right before the midterm saying they were going to pass tax cuts. After Congress had already recessed for the midterms.

I don't know the exact timelines but there was a period where Taiwan was known for making cheap knockoffs. If you watch shows in the 90s you'll hear jokes about "Made in Taiwan" Then China basically used its human leverage to make things that were even cheaper than what Taiwan was offering to make things.

There were violent, drug addicted guards, a totalitarian judge, and a crowd of people who were clearly destitute and sick but also very eager to see the judge make some other people suffer. we're actually cruising straight into the bell rights right on time for 2024 https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Bell_Riots in DS:9, this was one of the pivotal events that steered earth (or at least the US) away from hands-off-the-wheel capitalism backed by a fascist police state and toward a more equitable society. the setup for the episode is that in the early 2020s, the unemployed, mentally ill, and other undesirables were herded into a protest in one of the camps turned violent, and in the original timeline (which the DS9 crew has to fix in the episode after it gets disrupted), police shot and killed a black man who led the protest. someone was able to live-stream the police murder squad as they stormed the protest and the general public was forced to confront the ugly truth which was normally kept comfortably out of sight and out of mind. every single thing in that episode could easily happen by 2024, except that last part. LOL! edit: although, a lot more boomers are gonna stroke out in the next 4 years, so maybe even the last part about the average voter finally finding the tiniest shred of empathy for the poor and disenfranchised could fit Bad Purchase fucked around with this message at 21:00 on Sep 25, 2020 |

An insane mind posted:What is the deal with that orb anyway? Is it supposed to be some relic? It was actually a globe, but the continents were mostly hidden under their hands so it looked like a mystical orb of power. It was a prop for the ceremonial grand opening of some new Saudi anti-terrorism facility, and touching it launched a welcome video. The orb itself was apparently given to the US embassy, and stood in a hallway for a while as a popular prop for taking selfies. At some point it vanished into storage. I do hope someone is keeping track of it so it can go in the eventual Presidential library. Its sheer ridiculousness would make it so perfectly appropriate.

Just another way the lovely CHUD brain works. They don't understand anyone having the money for protesting because they themselves are poor. So when they get told by Rightwing media about Antifa supersoldiers flying into places to fight the God fearing locals, they dont question the claim, but even their last two synapses fire occasionally and they wonder how all these poor socialist leftists can afford to do all this protesting if no one has any money. So of course they look at the evidence and come to the opposite/conspiracy driven conclusion. Its not that the right wing reporting on these things is bullshit...its that some left leaning billionaire is paying for it all to cover their Satanic pizzagate or whatever.
