I watched a bit earlier on today, amazing the drivers can keep the pace up for so long. It's also amazing that front engined cars are competitive.

So looks like Mrs. Slidebite is working from home permanently now. Her office was looking for real estate before Covid, but saw how well it worked with everyone from home during the lockdown, so they decided to make it permanent. We went to her old location and picked up her desktop PC to the new home office. It is a beast of a Dell workstation. Probably weighs 30lbs. Case is almost completely metallic, and built well. Grab handles, front and back. Took the monitor connector off the back and I see she has some sort of dedicated video card with 4 dp outputs. OK. So now I'm curious as to what this thing has under the hood.... I was totally expecting a motherboard video output. Got it home, all connected up and did some snooping. Far cry from the basic workstation I use at my office. See she's running a dual Xeon W2235/2066, 32GB RAM and a Quadro RTX4000. Nicest "work" PC I've seen in some time. When the lease comes up I might want to see what the buy out is.

Luckily last year, Aerpro came out with a HVAC control system which allows 3rd party headunits to work. I jumped on it! Before: During Uninstallation: Now new HVAC controls installed: Fin, wireless Android Auto and streaming my music from Plex server on the go: Now I have to figure out a way to program the clock on the LCD, or ditch it and chuck in one of my Series 2 top vent kits.

everdave posted:That is so cool I love it It was a complete bitch to install though. I'm well versed in ripping this model dash out and can do it in the dark. But hoo boy when a loom says it does everything - don't trust it. And test EVERYTHING on the headunit. The adaptor loom didn't factor in parking brake so I couldn't get Android Autos initialization started as it thought I was driving. Found this out AFTER everything was buttoned up with no nondestructive way to get it out again. Lucky I was poo poo at tucking the main loom and managed to hook the PB sense wire with a pick and run it to ground to get things started. Then I thought it would be smart (whilst I had poo poo half torn down again) to maybe plug the old headunit back in to program the LCD screen clock. Well that loom wasn't long enough then remembered my extension hacked T-loom on the series 2 unit. Used that and it immediately blew a fuse. I spent much of the arvo going over the fuse box and web forums thinking I had fried the BCM or similar as the HVAC and Stereo was getting no voltage. Eventually I sat back, had a beer and pulled out the Haynes manual and 50 pages into wiring diagrams finding that the VCC to stereo is a direct link from yet another fuse box in the rear wheel arch near the battery. Of course that size and type doesn't have a spare onboard, so stole from it's twin. Cracked one trim piece in the process and incompatible with twin car so time to take a beer across the road to my mate who works for Holden and get a part ordered. Meanwhile my commute is literally 10 minutes. And faster if I ride my bike... Also saved myself $170 on a 'pro install'. Pricks at the shop I ordered didn't feel like notifying me of my order arriving so gently caress them, got a refund. Humphreys fucked around with this message at 12:16 on Sep 27, 2020 |

Spending almost 3 grand on it after taxes was a bit cringy for me, but since OLED are supposed to be way more reliable than LED, if it lasts a long time without any problems it's worth it. My last TV (Visio LED) lasted only a few years before it started having issues.

We drained it because it had a massive leak. Our dirt guy found a sand strata under the dam and is out here with his toys fixing it. While it was drained we figured we'd put a pier in. Piers coming along. Not bad for a trio of amateurs with a tractor and hand tools, if I do say so myself. We're worried about the decking being too low, it's sitting 30" below the spillway height. We figure with a 1/4" evaporation rate a day we'll only need to worry about the pier being submerged during hurricane/flood season, and a good height during the summer. Ellie has found her spot during the proceedings. Mustache Ride fucked around with this message at 17:31 on Sep 27, 2020 |

We're having a few rooms painted and it's so relaxing to not do this poo poo myself. But first I had to rip out the exisiting laminate floor and holy gently caress the guy who put this in did such a piss poor job. I had to break a dozen boards in order to get them out due to the installer deciding to slide the flooring under the drywall. I assume he used a tap block but it had to be a pain in the rear end to tap every board in. And then they put caulk in all the gaps that weren't skilled enough to slip the floors into! AGH! I'm an untrained amateur and I can do a better job than this!

Rhyno I could alder you a friend but unless that paint worn was CHEAP that is the most basic and better things to do. I am personally a fan of Sherwood Williams but I’m sure others have stepped their game up. Don’t even ask how my light replacement in my kitchen went you don’t want to know. It lights up let’s say that. And before I quit slack if I could have had an electrician come over for the day for $500 I’d have busted the money out before we stopped talking. I love house painting actually, I buy good paint, fresh roller covers, I've got a nice hand masker, use good tape. All of those things make it much better. I failed at teaching my wife how to roll, she completely compacted the roller into a smooth cylinder, but it was nice to have help. I've got one bedroom and a section of hall to go, waiting on my wife to pick a color since it's her room, but no rush.

You can remind them that texts messages are for reading, not reading into. Or say that you have to pay per text so you keep it short. To be real, I absolutely despise texts like that. Like they're having a whole imaginary conversation with you about something they think you say or mean, and you come in at the middle of it.

Painting is one of those things that's "easy" and "fun" when you only have a few rooms to do and you're not pressed for time. I had so much poo poo to do when I listed my house for sale that I just used my realtor's suggestion for painters and it was worth every penny. I'm probably on the low end of DIY skills in AI in terms of cars and house stuff, but I used to attempt to do everything myself unless things were really bad. Over time I really grew to appreciate just paying someone to do it right, but the huge caveat is sometimes it's really hard to make sure it was done right if you aren't doing it yourself.
