yeah they conveniently leave out any mention of handling and storing fissile material. they even mention right in the beginning how they're all walking around with illegal unlicensed reactors on their backs, which seems like a contamination issue

maybe in ghostbusters 1985 you can just walk into any corner store and buy some plutonium

and iirc they do all get out in one of the movies, which is, like, exactly why it’s irresponsible

in the first movie dickless shuts down the containment and they escaping ghosts create all the events that take place in the third act of that movie, but it could be argued that the ghosts were just pissed off at being locked up in the first place.

in the second movie it becomes apparent that psychic energy can directly affect reality, because all the new yorkers' aggregated bad moods manifest as a river of pink goo under the city. so the EPA was probably correct that storing the psychic energy of 1000 imprisoned ghosts in the basement of the firehouse was akin to storing toxic waste, at least on a spiritual level

state police don't care about county lines but the county sheriff sure does

city cops also can't arrest you outside of city limits

i mean it's trivial for them to just call up whoever has jurisdiction if you're getting near, say, the state line even. but it is a thing

but anyway those duke boys were actually able to operate so successfully as criminals due the poorly-funded law enforcement of their poverty-stricken rural county, which meant the sheriff's office was understaffed and filled with the incompetent and easily bamboozled

depends on the state, some states give cops state wide arrest powers

cops sometimes have local agreements giving them authority outside their jurisdictions. even if they don't, there's a generally accepted legal principle (at least in us law) that cops in "hot pursuit" can continue that pursuit across jurisdictional lines, although that's limited to places where us law actually applies, i.e. not across national or rez borders. and even if that weren't true, they could just arrest you the next time they see you, no matter how much later that is, because statutes of limitation are generally suspended when you flee

but it's a funny recurring plot point

matt had a good vlog rant where the only two movie options these days are grimdark-realism ~SERIOUS ART~ nolan-garbage or quippy self-aware ironic-poisoned Whedon writing where every character is going "oh wow, so THAT just happened. so huh we're doing THIS now". super serious vs knowingly humorous

and both are loving garbage, bring back fun-and-endearing-sincerity

yeah i really liked that. 2019 was actually a really great year for movies (lumping COOS into 2019 even tho i think itwas like jan 2020). the previous years of like 2010 to 2018 mostly sucked, and now it looks like 2020+ is going to suck.

all of my favorite recent movies have basically been A24 films as well. if it wasn't for A24, movies would be trash

it was pretty solid, i appreciate that they killed off every named character except the narrator, right up to a fakeout where it looks like he's going to save the girl who was otherwise the main character, but lol
