Fallout: New Vegas is a 2010 first person RPG set 200 years after an apocalyptic nuclear war. It's known for its great writing and dozens of memorable characters. I'm going to try for a perfect ending - getting the best possible ending for every single character and faction in the game, barring obvious conflicts. I'll do it all on the highest difficulty, without dying or reloading any saves. If I make a mistake, I'll have to live with it. If I die, the LP is over. In order to survive the Mojave Desert and recruit all the companions, I'm going to design my character into a finely-tuned killing machine, and explain some of the best traits and perks in the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXE0y27nkxI This is my first video LP so feel free to critique my editing. I'm trying to make this accessible for people who haven't played Fallout: New Vegas so I'll try to explain a little about the characters and factions involved. Each video is about 2 hours of gameplay edited into a 10-15 minute summary. I may decide to start streaming gameplay on Twitch if I can get it set up properly. My save file on the Strip was corrupted but I had a recent autosave that worked. I did the gameplay for Part 2 but it crashed near the end on the Strip and the autosave is corrupted. Hopefully I can salvage it. Edit: Rebooting and loading the autosave fixed it. Chamale fucked around with this message at 08:58 on Sep 25, 2020 |

I don't know exactly how the card distribution works, but I believe higher Luck improves your chance to get exactly what cards you need to win. At Luck 10, the game is basically rigged in your favor.

At least 7 Luck is what I remember being the best way to bankrupt the casinos.

At Luck 10, the game is basically rigged in your favor. -At low Luck scores, it's basically impossible to make a long-term profit because the game actively rigs the deck against you so you bust all the time. -At middling Luck scores, the player is a slight underdog. Apparently each casino has slightly different odds here, but you're an underdog at all of them. -7 Luck gives the player a slight edge so that you can slowly build a profit over time but need to play quite well to do so (this is probably the closest to actual reality) -8 and 9 Luck gives you more substantial edges so you can make more mistakes and still be a long-timer winner -10 Luck you're basically guaranteed to come out a big winner unless you're a total Blackjack idiot and/or intentionally trying to lose; you can regularly make even incredibly stupid decisions like hitting on a 19 and pull a card that doesn't bust you.

Huh. I'd have thought that with an ironman pro-strats run you would have used Many a True Nerd's "get every possible drop of xp at Goodsprings before modifying your character as you leave" advice.

I'd have thought that with an ironman pro-strats run you would have used Many a True Nerd's "get every possible drop of xp at Goodsprings before modifying your character as you leave" advice. The main benefit of that is taking advantage of a bug that lets you reroll the Skilled perk for a stats boost, and I'm trying to do this run glitchless, besides the inevitable crashes. MagusofStars posted:-7 Luck gives the player a slight edge so that you can slowly build a profit over time but need to play quite well to do so (this is probably the closest to actual reality) In a real casino, the house has a slight edge on an average hand. But when the dealer has been dealing mostly low cards so the average card left in the deck is higher, the player gains a slight edge. That's why it's possible to count cards and beat the house edge - a player can count cards, and bet 50 times more chips when the deck is full of tens and aces to beat the house edge. They could have made it so higher luck makes the deck contain higher cards, but they probably just programmed it to nudge probability in your favour.

Chamale posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIm05uWqM9s I know you're trying to keep the videos snappy, but I think you're doing the game a disservice by cutting basically all of the dialogue, since that's where it really shines. For game mechanics talk you could spend more time explaining why you're doing what you're doing. Is there a reason you decided to get a perk to tell you enemy DT when you're obviously familiar enough with the game to know what fights you can take? Did you take Shotgun Surgeon/And Stay Back out of necessity for surviving or because you just like shotguns? Why did you put some points into speech before dumping into medicine to get a perk that you didn't name? Was there a threshold you wanted to hit for a particular quest? I mean, it's base unmodded New Vegas with high intelligence so you'll max out every skill eventually, but hearing more about why you're prioritizing certain things could be interesting.

Xander77 posted:everything I guess I'd question who the target audience is. Is it longtime obsessive fans of New Vegas? If that's the case, you're not showing off anything particularly new to us, we've seen and done it all. And you're playing unmodded New Vegas and are clearly dodging difficult quests until you level enough, so any challenge you're going to experience, even playing Hardcore Ironman, is getting negated fast. Pretty soon you'll only really have to worry about Deathclaws and Cazadores, and those are in contained areas. Come to think of it, do you ever actually HAVE to face a Deathclaw outside of Lonesome Road? I think every other occurrence of them is optional (and Lonesome Road is optional DLC but I assumed you'd be doing it). You say in the op that you're "trying to make this accessible for people who haven't played Fallout: New Vegas," but if I was unfamiliar with the game I'd be completely lost partway through the first video with how much you fast travel around. I'd have no idea where anything is happening or why you suddenly abandon towns or quests partway through to go do something else. Instead of editing 2 hours of gameplay down into ten minute chunks like a youtuber circa 2010, maybe shoot for a half an hour so we can see more dialogue, context, get more explanation of what's going on, etc. And maybe try to play more consistently. Have an episode that's all about exploring around Novac and dealing with the Repconn Factory or heading from there to Boulder or Forlorn Hope to see what's happening in those nearby areas instead of fast traveling across the entire map five times in ten minutes of video. Then the next video can continue on from there and a sort of consistent narrative can start to develop. As it is it feels like you're just going down a quest checklist and that's not compelling or informative. Sorry don't mean to be super negative but it feels like you need to take this to the LP Sandcastle and get some feedback and maybe tweak some things.

MagusofStars posted:-7 Luck gives the player a slight edge so that you can slowly build a profit over time but need to play quite well to do so (this is probably the closest to actual reality) Actual reality is the house always wins in the long run, regardless of player skill, because players bust before the house. If you play mirroring house strategy, the house has an 8% edge, optimal strats can drop it to below 1% but never below 0.

LashLightning posted:Survival Cowboy build? Aim for playing through Honest Hearts as soon as possible? I like this idea! Unfortunately, the Cowboy weapons are all terrible, but there's also the Grunt perk that rewards you for using a particular class of weapons. And that would work very well with completing Honest Hearts near the beginning of the game, plus I wouldn't have to stress about getting my companions killed at the beginning of the game.
