I reckon that Labo(u)r Day weekend (or, the following week when cases spike) will be the first breaking point, and as fall approaches each sport will buckle under the pressure from players and general population. Days: MLB: 42 NHL: 39 NBA: 23 NFL: 43 Positives: MLB: 255 NHL: 99 NBA: 42 NFL: 420

(1) How many days will each league last, from opening day? If you think the championship will be awarded, just answer "complete." If you think the season will get canceled before opening day, feel free to answer with a negative. For seasons that do start but do not finish, we'll compare them by % of scheduled games played before the shutdown. MLB: COMPLETE NHL: COMPLETE NBA: COMPLETE NFL: 40 (2) First tiebreaker. How many players from each sport will end up contracting SARS-CoV-2? MLB: 116 NHL: 40 NBA: 71 NFL: 250 plus a death

For seasons that do start but do not finish, we'll compare them by % of scheduled games played before the shutdown. MLB: 36 days NHL: Complete NBA: Complete NFL: Complete (because lol at them actually cancelling their season) (2) First tiebreaker. How many players from each sport will end up contracting SARS-CoV-2? MLB: 272 NHL: 18 NBA: 23 NFL: 824 (+ a bunch of fans who willingly sign waivers to watch games in person because FOOTBALL) (...and also a couple of players dead since why not) NHL and NBA walk away relatively unscathed due to their bubbles (with the NHL thankfully away from the disaster that is the US), while the MLB becomes a casualty of flying everywhere to play their games, eventually forcing them to abandon the season. The NFL is a disaster due to the amount of players on the teams and also having to fly to each other's stadium, but refuse to let the virus stop them from finishing the season, as many of their fans keep angrily tweeting "don't let this stupid virus cancel my football!!!" Note that this may not actually be how I see things happening and may just be what I put for some quirky predicting.

My guess of 24 days for the MLB was way too generous

My 1 day wager was predicated on an earlier outbreak and a stubborn push to get 1 day in for various contract / service year provisions; that 7 day wager was wise because its really about teams refusing to do the second series after an outbreak.

Cardinals now testing positive and games are getting postponed. So how many teams need to be sitting out for MLB to finally call this off? We're at 3? 4? now. I said 30 days, and who knows, maybe MLB will be so stubborn they make it that far.

They're gonna limp along till some outside force stops them.

Now that MLB seems to have weathered the first storm, I'm not sure they will ever shutdown. Well, if they get to like 6 teams sitting at once, they may finally do it.

In hindsight, it seems like it was silly to think any leagues would shutdown. They will do anything to keep things going. Even College football is somehow doing it and they have very little control over their players lives.

Both the NBA and MLB completed their seasons. I believe the NBA registered no official positive tests. The MLB, of course, we obviously have to wait on for a few more days.

The NBA and NHL bubbles were extraordinarily successful. And also sound like they really, really sucked for the players and staff and folks who were stuck inside.

I guess it's time to determine a winner. Is there a good page for tracking NFL covid cases. Also congratulations to the leagues on their relentless death march.
