I spend very little time on social media, maybe 5 minutes on Facebook every couple of days culled down to nothing but good friends, I don't even read the news any more other than what leaks through on the radio during my commute and it's still a never ending torrent of corrosive evil you can't get away from. I'm constantly worrying about everything and everyone and I just want it to loving stop for 5 minutes.

Good job on doing something active about it.

A couple of months back I was lying in bed Sunday night and realizing that this was the first weekend in a month+ where I hadn't cried in the bathroom at least once. For me it has to do with being torn between doing work that I feel needs doing and spending time with my kid, coupled with the fact that I'm extremely Must. Execute. Efficiently. Now. and my wife is... very much not.

I know this is a very worn cliche, but try to accept the things you can't change, and devote some time to things that make you happy. Also, exercise. I've been almost exclusively riding my Bullitt cargo bike for a month, and holy gently caress does it work wonders for my mood, and my fillup frequency.

Not trolling but I honestly don't know how someone can turn to religion and think that a God exists and deserves your attention and that's the way to fix things or cope with them. If there are supernatural powers and they could make things better why haven't they? Are they cruel? Don't they care? Are they powerless?

Not to mention that, even if God or the gods are good, or even benign, their followers are jackasses, at least the vocal ones. See: Prosperity Gospel, or, really, any evangelical. Those that actually, you know, *live* by the Book ("love thy neighbor", "judge not...", "even the least of these", The Golden Rule, etc.)seem to be somewhat decent folks. Most evangelicals would burn Jesus if they actually met Him. He was a Socialist hippy.
Full disclosure: I was raised Catholic, and even they are hit or miss. See: the current Supreme Court nominee.

Yes! Biden showed up like he smoked too much. He couldn’t keep up with the malfeasant stream of Trumpian excrement and moderation was mostly useless at stopping it. So Biden just stammered, continually looked down, and laughed to himself. It was terrible all around.

To be honest, few people can tolerate the firehouse of effluent that comes out of Trumps mouth. He says such outrageous and patently stupid things that it just causes my brain to short circuit in confusion and disbelief. How do you counter high-volume, high velocity crazy?

I really can't stand the idea of cycling, or pretty much any exercise at the moment. I used to do archery and loved it but I'm not happy mixing with a bunch of randos right now. I need something though.

Cycling does rock. You're far away from other folks and you're not in contact with anybody for very long. I got a new bike in late May, and I'm about to roll over the 500 mile mark (which is not a lot for Real Cyclists, but feels like an achievement for a fatso like me)

Re: windows and UV protection, it depends on the manufacturer. All the manufacturers have plastic in the windshield which blocks UV, but the side windows can vary. Lexus adds UV protection to the side windows, you can see if it you roll them down partway and look at no window / window, there' s a slight green tint.

There are very helpful and informative people on twitter that will expose you to a variety of new ideas (for example, financial twitter (fintwit)), or even just people who nerd out on weird poo poo like what weapons various insurgent groups are using in their videos / have captured from other forces (@CalibreObscura). It is what you make of it, but I've never found it to be some shithole that required incredible efforts to make it usable. Maybe if you went on there to argue politics, but why would you do that. I'm not sure where else you could get the same information, possibly Reddit but I don't have severe brain damage so I find reddit's UI unusable and never go there. Like the forums I just block/ignore particularly annoying people and move on.

The thing that I think a lot of people miss is that it's heavily dependent on how you curate it - my partner and I have very different twitter feeds because of who we follow.

I will say, as a base assumption, that twitter's value is also it's most basic problem - it is the largely unfiltered thoughts of everyone. Unfortunately, a lot of people think a lot of dumb poo poo, and if you don't put any effort into curating twitter, you will read a lot of dumb poo poo.

I like that is becoming a quotable quote now.

I had words with a close friend who is typically a 'moderate' pastor of a local church I attended for a while. There's a whole back story that is relevant/not relevant to this one. Anyway, he played the 'well neither side is demonstrating Godly behavior right now' card. He also confessed to voting Trump last time because he felt like Trump would protect the rights of the church more than Hilary. We may not be friends anymore. And he may not be as moderate as he thinks he is.

I am pretty comfortable cutting out people that are a-ok with fascists and racists and homophobes from my life, yes. Also people who think it's a good idea to gently caress the poor can gently caress right off.
