I appreciate Subaru having the revelation that he should care about himself and not think that he should bear all the suffering in the world on his shoulders and then immediately caving on that as soon as Roswaal pushes back on that a little.

Also for real Subaru you really need to be more inquisitive about things. If you asked those witches somethings about why things in the world are the way they are I'm sure that knowledge would have helped you in the future.

I think that the testament Roswald has might not be any more special than the others , beyond the fact that his hasn't become inacurrate yet, so he can try to force subaru to do what the book says will happen because it shows a future he wants. if subaru gets a checkpoint after rendering his testament false, Roswald will have no recourse but to just pressure subaru into bringing about a future that is 'good enough' for him to tolerate.

The only difference between his and the normal witch cultists, seems to be that his talks about Subaru while the others don't.

Since apparently all of Subaru's acquaintances are witch cultists, does that make Otto a cultist of some sort. I was really getting a Minerva cultist feel toward the end there.?

I'd call that unfair, but probations under 24 hours are almost more like a sort of in-joke. I'm sure they are useful if you need someone to not post in a certain state of mind or at a certain time.

Edit: I'll also note that I don't get the joke at all.

Yeah I didn't get it either, I thought he was wiping away his injuries or something but if it was his make up I wonder the significance.

I feel like this interaction reinforces my Wild Mass Guessing crackpot theory that Roswaal is Future Subaru or Ultra Past Subaru.

I just took him as him dropping the mask, both figuratively and literally (hence no more make-up). He also stops talking in his silly, exaggerated way and talks completely normally (for a completely insane man) at that point. Subaru has disappointed him, and he has no reason to play the fool anymore, so he shows his true colours as he never does normally.

That makes a lot of sense, his speech did seem a lot more direct after the fact. It also lined up with the reveal in the conversation.

I'm curious as to what kind of hope Ram offers too; guess we will find out in January. :bang:

An uncountable number, to be sure.

It seems Subaru was even more messed up by the last couple of events than I'd expected. I don't think end-of-season-1 Subaru would have had trouble believing his friends liked him.

Trust me, they are.

But I still would have liked some more answers out of Satella, whom I'm starting to suspect might not be all that evil after all. (And what did Minerva do to be included in Subaru's "you're all crazy" comments?)

There was a major thing that was left out of the LN in this episode.

:siren: LN Spoilers be warned: Satella has two personalities (the original Satella who lived 400 years ago and yandere Witch of Envy) and this is made clear to Subaru. When Satella got ahold of the Envy Witch factor back then it drove her insane and killed all other witches, etc. I presume this was left out as it would only tie in to later arcs not yet written.

Yes. I'm still not 100% certain that such a detail will get skipped and I still sorta think it might make it into the second half, but I at least appreciate that you decided to spoiler-tag it and present the warning. I still haven't read the novels myself, but I think that, once the 2nd cour of this season finishes airing, I'm gonna stop dithering and just take the plunge.

From what I've been told by a co-worker, the novel that just got officially translated back in July is the stopping point (volume 13, I think?)

Episode 13 ends on the second chapter of volume 13. The rest of 13, 14 and 15 will be covered in the second cour.

The anime is cutting a bunch of foreshadowing scenes, though, so it'd be a bit of a waste (and possibly confusing) if you jump into the middle of the LN series.

Oh, most definitely. They adapted like 8 or 9 novels into 26 episodes for the 1st season. Even the best writer's room had to go "gently caress it, [x] and [y] ain't leaving the cutting room's floor"
