Spotted this setting in the Squadrons "ProfileOptions_profile" config file - no wonder it seemed so blurry:code:
I've tried supersampling using the Oculus Tray Tool but it doesn't seem to work. Hopefully this gets fixed soon as it feels like playing without my glasses on!

Game is still a total mess on my machine post patch, sadly. Inside the ships runs at 144fps and outside the ship is this weird 30fps double-vision blurry disaster that gives me a headache.piano chimp posted:Unfortunately, this file either gets updated or recreated by the game on startup so setting this to read-only doesn't seem to work - there's a similar issue with trying to disable motion blur. Its the extremely aggressive anti-cheat, it resets all your config files forcibly. Which makes them really loving convenient as config files lmao. Thanks EA.

Okay I think I need to put squadrons away for a month. 3700x with 2070 super and an Oculus Quest. Also bought this on steam.... Getting like 30 FPS in game and getting super sick. And I fly airplanes IRL. combination of bad frame rates and I still haven’t gotten used to having pedals as roll. Gonna wait till the reverb g2 comes in I think.

Anton, please add an armswinger mode where you use the thumbstick to point in the direction you want to go, and then armswing to move in that direction.

On the index I have both the touch pad and thumbstick as the gun function using armswinger. The bottom face button for going and the top for turning, since it's easier to push top while holding bottom. I've gotten so use to it now that I doubt I will try another way. The thumbstick gestures for guns feel a lot more realistic then any other fps to me. One thing I do hope he adds in the tutorial is using the slide release on rifles. I noticed most people always pulled the charging handle on guns when reloading. That doesn't work in real life most of the time. If you see the slide on something like an ar still open when empty, just tap the little button on the side of the model to release it. It's a lot faster.

I saw some interesting videos really showing off the 60hz refresh issue with squadrons. This is really a wtf issue. It feels like they designed the game for 60fps for consoles, and psvr, and just didn't give a poo poo on pc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xcsa0iQmSE Another video showing an example of it. https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsSquadrons/comments/j4olt3/slowmo_video_showing_the_60fps_bug/

Luneshot posted:Anybody have experience with VorpX? How well does it do the job of translating a flatscreen game to VR? extremely hit or miss, and most of the time miss. I played around with it in the early days and while you could get it to work in a lot of games, more often than not it wouldn't work in geometric 3d mode, just a z buffer 3d mode, the performance was usually bad, and often times the way it mapped head movement just didn't work and was laggy and kind of awful. If it was free it would be easy to say "play around with it, yeah" but considering they charge.. what? 40 bucks for it? I would really have to say its not worth it outside of very specific circumstances.

Tom Guycot posted:Ah, don't suppose anyone in that thread has come up with any solution? Nope. I just finally played a bit of the game by locking everything on my computer to 60hz across the board. It feels okay that way, although low frame rate is lovely when you have a VR headset and a 144hz monitor, and there's a motion-blur you can't turn off that makes it feel even worse. Just gotta wait for a patch to even consider playing in VR. Shame because the cockpits look so good, and actually render in smooth comfortable 120+ fps. But the exterior just... is hosed right now.

Luneshot posted:Anybody have experience with VorpX? How well does it do the job of translating a flatscreen game to VR? Honestly IMO not worth it, but YMMV. If you're a DIE-HARD VR enthusiast who is willing to accept serious issues in order to play some games you love in VR which don't have VR support, it DOES work. You will see in stereo-3D and you can look around inside those games. However, it never felt right to me. No matter how I configured it, it always felt like "controlling a mouse with your head", not actually being in a VR world. You gotta spend a lot of time dialing in the settings for each game to have the right look and 3D settings. Even then, the best case scenario has the game running in VR but you still have compromises due to the game not being designed for it. In a FPS, you will always have your gun pointing the direction you're looking. To me, that's not good enough. Its not really VR unless I can point my gun one direction and then look back over my shoulder.

I'm waiting on a 3080 and reverb g2 to replace my 1060 and rift s, which I expect will be a pretty fun upgrade and maybe even worth the cost, but Im hoping someone can answer my questions to make the wait a bit less difficult. Firstly, is watching a video in a floating window while playing a game okay? Like I tried it with OVR toolkit with my old set up, but my video card clearly couldn't handle it. If you have a good set up does it work well? Also, it recently occurred to me that my G2s screen could possibly look better than my old 1080p monitor. If it is the case, any reason I wouldn't want to just play games like Cyberpunk in the Steam VR cinema mode thing? I never bothered trying it out when I still had my rift S.

veni veni veni posted:Is Dirt 2.0 worth 10 bux if I already have the original Dirt Rally? 100% it is. Its worth way more. Its a proper sequel, if you like Dirt Rally then by all means. The only way it isn't is if you don't like Dirt Rally 1 or you never play it, in which case I doubt you'd be asking. Rally 2 feels more polished and graphically impressive than Rally 1 while offering new locations to rally in, but the VR support is just as rock solid as Dirt Rally 1.

Dirt Rally 1 is one of my favorite VR games and just racing games in general, so I guess it's a no brainer. Tbh I didn't realize it was a sequel. I thought it was a couple of new tracks or something. The reason I was asking I just rebought Dirt Rally on PC last week and saw the sale and was like, oh poo poo. At least it was only $5. Foo Diddley posted:I was wondering that myself, it's sitting in my cart rn. If you had the base game, the VR add on was $20. Then they released a version with the VR rolled into it. and they would put both versions on sale for super cheap, but never the DLC. So if you already owned the base game you couldn't but the complete edition with VR and it would be on sale for like $5. But if you already owned the game you'd have to pay $20 to upgrade to VR. There's a lot of smaller devs that do this, I assume as an oversight but it's insanely annoying.

Well, I got the new Star Wars VR game, hated it, and refunded it. I don't suppose there's a cool community project that's VR-ified the classic X-Wing and/or TIE fighter? Or anything in the Wing Commander series? Or Freespace? e: to be clear, it ran flawlessly for me (apart from long load times). I just thought it was a poo poo game. The fighters all handle like pregnant yaks, not like the starfighters I remember, and I don't like the teeny weeny scope. And I hear the singleplayer is only like six hours long. And I don't want to play 5v5 dogfights. It's supposed to be a zillion disposable TIEs to a handful of durable *-Wings, damnit! Hyperlynx fucked around with this message at 10:31 on Oct 4, 2020 |

VR feels great in the alliance fighters but all the imperial ships have such a small viewport that it really adds nothing to the game there. Being able to track your target by just turning your head to follow it is such an advantage I don't even know where to start.
