Solid album, but I can see those Morgan Freeman narrations getting old real quick.

I think the only stuff I've really liked this year has been Griselda stuff and Savage Mode 2. Hoping the end of the year brings a few good stuff with it

Unfortunately the bass was about the only thing I really enjoyed about Savage Mode 2, but drat, that bass was really good.

i've been sleeping on b-side for sure. and that track is filthy. straight crud.

my honest opinion is homerton is holding it down at the moment. i'm enjoying their posse cuts a whole lot and 'drilliam shakespeare' is obviously the best name for a drill record in existence and especially descriptive of ko in general who i personally have in my top 3.

zone 2's workrate has fell off a bit but as recently as last year they were probably at the top.

I just hate how different it is from the rest of the album, tonally. I never ever remove tracks like that, but I feel like the album is that much better for it.

Savage Mode II is the first trap album in a minute to really catch my ear. Really nice. Have I missed anything else good this year? Bounced off Eternal Atake, didn't like the new Polo G as much as Die A Legend. Literally forgot that High On Life came out...

never thought i'd see this sentence here, but i've been listening to uk rap like 90% of this year so i'm with it.

Honestly Grime's always been something I've liked/respected, but it's basically it's own scene despite a lot of similarities with rap (which I think is good-the main reason I say 99.3% of foreign rap sucks is because most of it is just regurgitated subpar knockoffs of whatever was popular in the US 5 years ago or whenever they discovered rap) so I've always not been sure if it should really be discussed here. Also it's way more single driven from what I've always understood, so tracking down stuff isn't as easy-I mean outside of the streaming stuff it's still usually possible to find albums and mixtapes that let you get basically a complete package of music to introduce an artist and what's popular, whereas with grime stuff that seems a lot more difficult as it's a bunch of comps or loosies (tbh the drill stuff kinda has that same issue imo).

And as for having their own thing, I mean even UK drill is basically an entirely different animal from what drill is in the US (basically king l/young chop/keef/etc). Bonus points had for a lot of the UK dudes actually being pretty nice rapping. Also not that the US doesn't obviously have a bunch of copycats (hell Dababy barely had time to get popular before you got a wave of dudes biting his flow) but you still get a lot of originality. Basically only other non-US/Canada rap that's anything different is the whole Yung Lean/SADBOYS group (and if I'm being honest none of those dudes can rap but they got insane production) and the stuff Nujabees largely spawned.

Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that's Jimmy T.
New Benny the Butcher single off his forthcoming album produced entirely by Hitboy. Track has features from Lil Wayne and Big Sean and they both absolutely kill it. Hitboy is quickly moving up the ranks of my favorite producers for his ability to craft the perfect sound for literally anyone. Beat is different than your typical Griselda poo poo and still works really well.
