Rowing is a good, solid sport and it's fantastic that non-white athletes are getting recognized and yet at the same time this just feels like a tremendous missed opportunity for the sport of basketball as a whole https://twitter.com/SJUHawks_MRow/status/1300508962186506241?s=20

His dad must be so torn. On one hand, your child is a high level scholarship athlete. On the other, you clearly had something other than rowing in mind.

So this sure is something: https://twitter.com/Sportico/status/1303400562516545538?s=20 I'm sure it's being talked about elsewhere but for basketball in particular it just seems the moral hazard of doing this is enormous, point shaving is pretty difficult to prove at the best of times and you're doing this in an industry where the actual workers make no money and could have their futures ended at any moment.

Like it sucks that players don't get a cut of everything but sports gambling was a massive business whether or not Colorado has an Official Partner

Is it possible to prove point shaving if the participants aren't taking notes on a criminal conspiracy? Trying to prove a dude is missing shots intentionally seems impossible

Unironically I would be very happy with an Every Team tournament as a one of. *More basketball is always good *April and May Madness in particular would own *Gives smaller schools some revenue *A 32 seed taking a 1 seed into half time as a close game would be cool The only drawback would be the end of the Never Made The Tournament Club, but we could just exempt this year from that.

For single elimination it’s always X-1 where X is the total number of teams. Kenpom lists 353 for last year, can’t imagine any are adding, dunno if any are dropping or probation plays into it, but around 340-350 games maybe?

Create 32 groups of 11 teams and do round robins. Top two teams go to a 64 team tournament. One pod would need to have 12 teams to get to 353. They can have the 2 and 3 teams do a play in for the final spot.

I don't understand Geo Baker making all conference, and I am worried Rutgers will underachieve this year without its home court advantage, which is the starkest in the country IMO. Baker is fine, I get that it's reward for being expected for the team to be good this year. And I think his numbers were depressed last year a little by injury, he was very good down the stretch and is a good crunch time player. But he is the definition of a volume scorer if there ever was one. Ron Harper is better, and Myles Johnson is better on a per rate basis but fouls too much.

I do like that this was apparently sort of an open secret and the only thing that ever came of it until now was vague whispers about the real reason he couldn't get a major conference job. I'm sure knowing he wasn't at indiana or whatever making even more money was a comfort to the kid he was choking

That story is structured in a way where you go "Wow, this is insanely bad" for 25 paragraphs and then you get to the part where you learn the kid who got punched had cried while telling Marshall his mom had cancer earlier that day
