ThinkTank posted:It doesn't seem possible but this might be the worst week of Jim Benning's tenure as a GM, and this is a man who traded for Gudbranson and signed Eriksson and Myers to massive contracts. He's struck out on literally all of his objectives since last weekend. I'm not going to call it the worst because the limit to his failures this week is that the team is awful for one year, which is still better than being capped out for 4-6. But yes a much smarter GM could have cleaned up in FA this year.

Steve Yzerman: four quiet, great free agent signings, $20 million in cap space remaining with two big RFAs to sign Ken Holland: two days into free agency, Edmonton's cap space is all gone

So the Flames get the Canucks two best free agent and the Oilers get the PP QB they've lacked for a decade or more for 60 cents on the dollar. What a great day to be a Canucks fan.

I get why they're doing it, but is Tyler Johnson the "best" player to go on waivers recently? A 40 point pace over an 82 game season is a dip, but still serviceable.

Montreal could've bullied their way into so much talent this offseason. They were the unique team in that they had cash AND cap space. All their going to end up with after spending $13 million in the biggest buyers market in memory is Jake Allen, Joel Edmundson and Josh Anderson. As a Leafs fan Montreal reloading aggressively was my biggest worry. Thank you Marc Bergevin. ...I'm still a little worried Boston or Florida might take advantage.

Oilers were after Markstrom (offering 7 years but less money by the sounds of it), Holtby, Kuemper, and surely inquired about Murray and talked to Greiss... but have to settle for Mike Smith again? All while losing Klefbom and bringing in the defensively porous Barrie. WOOF.

What can the Capitals expect from Lundqvist? Is he cooked or can they get a good season or two out of him?

Solid value but he is old and often broken. Edit: Hank continued to perform well above expectation last season so now that he has gone to DC I hope he implodes.

His numbers aren't great if you are looking solely at save percentage but if you adjust for how bad the Rangers defense was his numbers were still above average. Hard to tell what to expect given he will likely decline but I'd guess he'll be average or slightly above, which is still pretty good for a backup/1B goalie making $1.5M

How good are Moneypuck's metrics? They're the only source of expected save percentage I can find since Corsica never works. They have Lundqvist performing below expectations (which takes into account having a poo poo rear end team) for 4 years now.
