Hmmm, really? I was just surprised, because when I went to the main menu, the sky and airport were relatively busy, when I hopped immediately back in, there were suddenly just only six other nametags.

Oh that's weird. I think there's probably other weirdness with the network code that can happen. It's definitely not pure instance based, judging by how I've heard other people describe the system and also my own experience in large group flights with streamers where everyone sees different people from the one big group.

Hey I got the throttle and they're correct about that. The throttle slides along metal rails on matte plastic brackets and the friction makes it not so nice, the unit actually shifts a little when you're trying to get over the initial friction.

What I did was open it up and cover the plastic that touches the rails with smooth packing tape, after cleaning off the minimal amount of grease on the plastic. It was pretty easy, took me about 30 minutes and now it feels much nicer.

What kind of packing tape? Like a matte tape? Seems like glossy packing tape would be sticky too. I just put some grease on the rails and it's doing ok so far.

Just regular clear packing tape. The sticky part doesn't touch the rail

I mean the back part seems like it can have a lot of friction, but maybe not against metal.

Yeah, there's an automatic option, which I've set to West Europe a while ago already.

ATC-Pilot interaction isn't always consistent either.

EDDL ATC sends me to the runway via taxiways C-A, my virtual copilot confirms C-D-C-A-C-A instead and the route goes unnecessarily part over the runway.

Two possibilities:

1) Europe requires radios with 8.33KHz spacing, while the USA still uses 25KHz spacing. In the USA you can have 122.275 and 122.300 but nothing in between, and many radios don't even have the last digit (displaying them as 122.27 and 122.30). In Europe you will have 122.275, 122.280, 122.285, 122.290, and 122.300. It's possible that something is going wrong in the translation between US and European standards.

2) They just got the frequencies wrong. This seems more plausible because, as you can see, the 25KHz spacings coexist with the 8.33KHz spacings.

Random fun fact: the VHF radio frequency spectrum has been constantly divided down from the earliest days of aviation radio. It ranges from 118 to 137MHz and started out with 200KHz spacings (118.0, 118.2, 118.4...) then went to 100KHz in the 1940s to get more available channels. In the mid-50s they split again to 50KHz channels (118.15, 118.20) and then in 1972 split to 25KHz as we have today. Now Europe has split the 25KHz channels again into 4 parts and the USA is slowly moving that direction.

The only artifact of the old spacing is GUARD, which keeps 100KHz; there is nothing between 121.4 and 121.6 except for 121.5.

Thanks for the detailed insight. It can't be the frequency spacing I think; if you scroll through the Garmin menus, it lists the spacing as 8.3khz.

So I guess they really got the frequencies wrong. It's probably very banal and trivial but I can't help to wonder how that happened since I thought getting the frequencies in game was just a matter of scraping some public or licensed database. If i put on my detective cap, I could probably figure out some of the game's most uninteresting making-of/development trivia by finding the origin of these these errors. (I bet it's something lame like a problem with importing csv files from some vendor)

Regarding VKB orders, I placed my order on 10/2, knowing that VKB HQ was closed for a Chinese holiday. They said they'd resume shipping on 10/12, and I just got the shipping notice today, with delivery scheduled for Wednesday.

I can't speak for their order backlog on entire joysticks, but yeah, there was no delay (aside from the holiday) in getting the KOSMOSIMA Gunfighter grip shipped.

Uh, so the mach bug on the 78X, does it break drag simulation? I've been going 320kn at 10500ft, then did a controlled dive to 1500ft because I wanted to see who was at a local airport, and then the plane coasted around 240-250kn at +/- 0FPM VS and it barely shed speed. I was controlling thrust manually, and engines were at idle.

--edit:
Right now I'm descending at 1400FPM, with 260kn, but according to the artificial horizon, I'm not even at -0.5° and the plane doesn't shed speed either with engines at idle.

I remember reading in the most recent patch notes that they changed something about when the lightning stuff gets triggered but, as a result, I now seem to have lightning and thunder on every flight. It's a super cool effect but on a clear blue sky with just a few cirrus clouds lazily drifting around, it's a bit much. Is anyone else experiencing the constant wrath of Thor? I was on descent into the Kennedy Space Center shuttle landing strip in the Airbus :jeb: I was trying to figure out how to set the ILS with my head down in the panels when the game abruptly ended saying I crashed into an object.

What object? I was still FL300 over the Gulf of Mexico and there are no midair collisions or bird strikes modeled.

Gonna load that flight again tonight and see if I can replicate it, but if it was another player or live traffic that I clobbered obviously I can't recreate that bit.

If SWS doesn't have a dead zone calibration, you can set it up using Joystick Gremlin and vJoy, then bind your actions in SWS to the virtual joystick. https://whitemagic.github.io/JoystickGremlin/ then the quickstart guide is here: https://whitemagic.github.io/JoystickGremlin/quickstart/.

Honestly no idea what's causing it, it doesn't seem to always happen (and from the general vibe online not everybody is affected). It's certainly happening in weather that should not have thunderstorms though. Maybe they're simulating the end of the world.

Now you're talking. My Dad was a Captain on the 737-200 a long time ago and empty, these things were a rocket. Plus big bucket thrust reversers and a gravel kit meant you could get in to all sorts of places other jets couldn't get. I have half a dozen hours in the 737-200 simulator and was it ever fun to fly. (Of course, as a private pilot, being in a simulator of anything with that much power would be fun to fly!)
