Youth Decay, if you’re taking suggestions at all, I’d love to see more apartments, particularly smaller units. Love the big grand houses but for many of us I imagine an apartment is all we’re ever gonna be living in. Just a suggestion though — thanks for all the great posts!

My parents are thinking of moving back to the DC area for pre-retirement... what are the cities with modern shops and restaurants and good, affordable housing (with no/minimal stairs) within 2 hours of downtown? Lol Edit: and safety double lol

If they’re working in DC and thinking of commuting make sure they realize that’s one of the most miserable commutes in the country.

Lol Baltimore. Or if you're seriously talking 2 hours (which is insane unless they're only going in once a week or something), Richmond. NoVa is a soul-sucking wasteland.

Baltimore is expensive now too unfortunately, and unless you’re looking in the Balto suburbs you’re going to have a tough time filling the “stairs?!?” requirement. I would say MD over VA for sure, and would recommend checking Ellicott City or even Frederick, if they’re not planning on heading into DC more than a few times a month. You can also look at Columbia MD - I would personally be loathe to live there as a 30-something, but if you’re around retirement age I can see the appeal. I will say that the traffic has only gotten worse and that trip into DC is probably going to be rough no matter what. I did Balto-Rockville and Balto-Silver Spring every day for 7 years and almost lost my mind.

It says six bedrooms, but I only count three + the bunk bed room. Does this house have two guest rooms but one shared den for six kids or what is going on?

If the "side" of that bed is compressed to 3' then so is the end. It's a square. If it's a normal length then it must be a king size bunk bed with a six foot wide ladder

That's what I thought at first too, but then you'd expect the bed on the left and right to look like stretched out XL twins. But they look pretty short too. I'm telling ya, it's the Oompa Loompa servant's quarters. Or maybe they were foster parents who only took in preschoolers or something. But enslaved Oompa Loompas is less depressing.

It seems like it was probably cropped out of a wider shot that was centered somewhere on the left side of the posted photo. Every single vertical line is curved and the planks on the wall are twice as wide on the right side.

Back on the east coast I thought texture had died out in the 80's, but instead it just all migrated inland.

Thinking furniture, does anyone have experience with Homary? They have some stuff that we like the look of, but it's "order from China and wait" and I'm never quite sure about that. Here's a vanity we're looking at, for instance.

Mr. Wiggles posted:Um the cheeseburger tower was awesome when I was a kid. https://atelierviollet.com/category/portfolio/furniture-types I doubt anyone can afford it, but maybe it gives you some ideas? They definitely have an Art Deco vibe to a lot of their stuff. Unfortunately that’s not really the trend right now so I’m not sure who makes that kind of stuff these days. You might have better luck with antiques (I guess some of that stuff is crossing the 100yr Mark now?)/vintage stuff. I love that stuff too-hopefully someone is making it.

Yeah, maybe we'll keep going through the vintage shops. But dang this isn't like getting a couch, where lots of people are making appropriate pieces. Maybe vanities are too niche anyway.
