Hey here's a stupid question. A friend is reading a book about Kid A and we started talking about Pitchfork's funniest reviews. I remember their review of Agaetis Byrjun being really, really funny - probably funnier than their Kid A review - with language like: "wrists will be slit and children will be conceived to this album." But they've since replaced their review with an updated one, and now I can't find the old review anywhere!! I like the review for the Black Kids album that was just "we are sorry", because they had really liked their EP. There is an article somewhere that went to a few different bands to discuss the effects of a negative review from Pitchfork. It's been a while, so I don't even know how to search for this.

The biggest problem is that they don't have a voice any more. They're just another music news website. For example, they'll rip apart Takeshi 6ix9ine and give him a terrible review, and then the next day, run a news story about a new song or remix he did. And it's like - why are you giving this guy press after all the horrible poo poo he did, and then if you trash his album, why would you give him more press? "Bad As They Seem" was supposed to be his breakout hit and hasn't dated well lyrically (he changes it live), "Dynamite Walls", and "Bass Song" were some minor hits in Canada but writes some of the saddest songs next to Leonard Cohen and Elliott Smith. Matt and The National began speaking about him interviews, befriended him, and it revived his career, got signed to Arts & Crafts, and is pumping out new music. I recommend "Instructions", "Hearts Just Beat", "Orange Curtain Light", "Let's Break Up" (for a happy sad song), "More Than Alive" "drat this Feeling" (the whole "In Field & Town" was a great album), "Did I Wake Up Beside You?", "Lonely Security Guard", "Dynamite Walls", "Bass Song", "The Hazards of Sitting Beneath Palm Trees", "Home By Saturday" (him at his peak alt-country), "You Are All I Have", "Tragedy", "You Were Loved", "Choking", "Wasting My Days Away", "Woody" is the fan favorite because it's about his cat. Anyway, The National saved the guy's career and got him to sign to Arts & Crafts for a couple of albums after disappearing and now he's back. I'm not a fan of The National but they were influenced by the guy and helped him start making music again and I'll always love The National for that. New Loma album came out yesterday and I'm really loving it – moody, atmospheric, clever songwriting and instrumentation. It's a collaboration of Emily Cross from Cross Record and Jonathan Meiburg from Shearwater. it really does. Album was definitely pivotal in my musical development and it still sounds absolutely perfect to this day, and everything Girls put out had a sound to it like someone was able to get 50% more out of it because they knew some sort of production magic and that's all on him

And then stuff like Metaz Form8, gr4 and r cazt are beautiful and lush, overall it’s a bizarrely ‘sentimental’ album if you can call autechre’s stuff sentimental, it’s just more blatantly uh, optimistic or something. Then of course there’s tracks like sch.mefd 2, or M4 Lema and esc desc which are more abrasive, but then they sort of open up and make way for a beautiful pad, or you can sort of just hear the inner workings of them and hear that there’s more to it. Then like au14 is pretty classic autechre, but still cool. And agreed, it’s really nice to have an hour long album and not a 5 disc album, or an 8 hour thing like the NTS sessions.. even Exai was 2 hours long, and I thought that was excessive. You heard this, the Japanese bonus track? lol i listened to Quaristice while I was tripping on acid a few weeks ago and fwzE made me laugh my rear end off at how loving crazy it sounded. and ive heard that album a billion times but that time it sounded like it came from a different planet, like i couldnt comprehend how people could make music that sounds like that i see what you're saying about the straightforwardness. it feels like most of the tracks are like this one big in-your-face element and then a bunch of quiet subtle stuff happening underneath it. Metaz form8 is one of the prettiest tracks they've ever done. esc desc is really sad (like emotionally, not quality-wise) i love the japanese bonus track but i cant get the drat download in the youtube video description to work!! it doesnt do anything
