like I am pleasantly surprised to find out that Anaal Nathrakh apparently got loving amazing while I wasn't looking, and stopped sounding like a bunch of rhesus macaques beating on their instruments while the vocalist gets repeatedly stabbed in the dick in front of a microphone

It's not amazing, groundbreaking stuff but it's consistently fun. I gave the new album a spin today and was pleasantly surprised that it's got some catchy riffs and king diamond vocals. I enjoy it and don't care if other people don't like it.

For my money Constellation and Vanitas are the standout albums of their later output and they’ve been rewriting Vanitas ever since, just with different samples. Forward is a pretty rad song though, and The Whole Of The Law has Dave doing some King Diamond falsettos like he used to do in Mistress but the constant rehash of the same riffs and song structures for the last 10 years has been disappointing Also yelling “gently caress” through a heavily clipped mic preamp isn’t as edgy as it used to be

In fairness sometimes the bands that talk about the horror of war, are vocal Republicans/right wingers. Megadeth and Metallica come to mind, and I'm sure there are some DM and BM bands this applies to as well.
