Is it possible to ever get "stuck" in a solar system if you run out of fuel?

I figured out you can easily get the components for whatever the fuel is that lets you dart around solar systems by blasting asteroids, but it's not so clear on the hyperdrive fuel side of things.

Also, what's the main way for cash and nanites at my stage and what are the essentially good for? I guess the "loop" is something i'm still trying to figure out because i've been railroaded to this point so far with just a few glimpses into things, while the stuff i've built as part of the tutorial is now strewn over a couple of different solar systems.

edit: Like, suit and shop storage. I'm already running out of space, should i just be selling everything and farming from scratch on each planet or is there a way to increase this capacity and should I make that the initial priority with cash that i make?

For very early cash there are a few things you can do. Use the nanites you get from turning in quest stages to Nada at the anomaly to buy S class upgrades for your scanner and scan all plants and animals you see. You can put 3 upgrades on and this is a good source of income.
If you are on a planet with Ancient bones then dig those up and sell them, you can get lucky and get rare ones worth millions.
Exchange navigation data for maps to ancient ruins in space stations and at ancient artefact sites dig up three keys and the chest to get a random artefact you can sell.
These things will get you early cash.
Nanites, the travellers on the anomaly give those out for turning in main quests and scan data and milestone data. Also collect residual goop, moulds etc from containers and those refine into nanites in a few stages.

Nanites and units are both cash essentially and you use them to buy stuff throughout the game.
I have spent billions of units on stuff and made billions back in no time.

To add on to this post about the living ship quest:

I *just* completed it last night (started it a week ago) and my god, the coordinate hunting is a pain in the rear end.

Some of them are okay, but then you get these sets of coordinates that cycle around and are on a hellstorm planet so you can't see the ground or anything, which makes navigation a huge pain.

The coordinate navigation was a thing that definitely was not needed in this game.

There is a trick to getting a ship that looks how you want though.

Once you actually complete the final step of the quest, the egg will ask to hatch. After hatching, it will direct you to a normal ship crash site that will now be a living ship.

Make a manual save right after you complete the last step and "disconnect communications" when the egg asks to hatch.

Then go to whatever system you want and let it hatch. If you don't like the ship, go to a different system and let it hatch. I basically just visited all the systems I had a base in until I found something I liked. There is quite the variety of ship types and I sure found some weird ones. I got a neat green glowy one!

You also can't upgrade the inventory space of living ships which is a pain.

in my experience, the best way to get nanites, or at least one to keep an eye out for, is to find haunted factories surrounded by "whispering eggs." these drop an item that sells for like 60k nanites apiece, and a given location will often have like 15 or 20 of them. on my survival run i was able to get up to 3 million credits after like 4 of these factory runs. if you need nanites instead, you can put them in your refiner and turn them into 50 nanites. another excellent way to get credits (but costly in nanites) is to buy S-tier scanner upgrades at a space station, since once you've gotten three of those upgrades, every plant you scan gives you 60k credits, and animals will give you up to like 300k if they're rare. Generally, once you've got those upgrades, just exploring can be lucrative, since you can scan everything for credits and you can upload discoveries for nanites.

for suit storage, there's a vendor in every space station that will sell you a single inventory upgrade, starting at like 5k credits but getting much more expensive. inventory space is the primary antagonist of this game.

For suit storage, you can buy an inventory slot with cash on every station, but only once per station. It's in a kiosk next to the guy who sells suit mods. You can add slots to any of your three inventory tabs, with the cost increasing as you gain more slots and cargo slots always being more expensive. Every populated system you visit is more inventory!

If you want to increase it more on the cheap (but a bit more slowly), do the base computer missions until you get the exocraft guy, then do his quests until you get the upgraded scanner (or just buy this stuff with nanites at the anomaly). This will let your exocraft scan for nearby drop pods without having to pay for drop pod coordinates with cash. A drop pod will give you an inventory slot for a small amount of materials (iirc 55 oxygen, 45 sodium nitrate, 55 ionized cobalt, 1 antimatter). Go to a nice calm jungle planet, scan for a pod, then go to it and collect. Keep repeating until it directs you back to a pod you already did, then either fly to a different part of the planet or a different planet entirely. I recommend mainly increasing cargo slots this way since main inventory and tech slots are pretty cheap to just buy until you have a lot of them.

Ship inventory will require a decent amount of cash to farm up, but it's not actually that bad. Use the ship's economy scanner to find a a Korvax system with a good economy (flourishing, opulent, high supply, etc) and park at the station. Most of the ships that land will be shuttles or explorers, and a lot will be A rank (use the scanner visor as they land to see their rank). Most of these will cost in the low 7 digits to buy. Buy it, then run upstairs to the ship upgrade station to melt it down to get most of your money back in sellable scrap. When you do this you'll also get 1-4 A class ship upgrades that you can sell for nanites, and 0-2 ship inventory modules that you can use to improve a ship you actually want to keep. S class explorers are still pretty cheap but guarantee an inventory module and give S class ship upgrades that you can sell for more nanites or keep for your main ship.

After you make a base (early in the initial questline), one of the things you're able to build is a construction terminal. Make that, and shortly after you should get a mission update to hire an overseer to run it. Once you do that, he'll start directing you to do other things including hiring some other NPCs to do things at your base, each of which has their own questline and unlocks some other blueprints.

I think you get the construction terminal blueprint on like the third Artemis mission?

You have to actually set the archives mission as your active mission and wait a sec for it. Then a quest marker will appear over the base computer and you can interact with it for a blueprint or be directed to an abandoned facility.

The quicksilver merchant should definitely have more than that. There are some tabs that only show specific items on the list, maybe you tabbed off of "show all" by mistake. Helios in the anomaly will give you nanites based on your discoveries once a day, exactly the same as a base scientist. In fact if you already talked to the base scientist that day, Helios won't give you poo poo and vice versa. He'll also give you an emergency scanner for finding derelicts once a week but only after you've done at least one derelict mission.

The living ship quest is kind of a pain, both because of the coordinates thing and because it has time gating so you can't do the whole quest in one session. You can see your coordinates from your ship, but only if you're low enough over the planet that your speed is capped very low, so it's a cycle of dipping down to get your bearings, drifting back up to the altitude where you can go fast but can't see coordinates, and repeating until you're close enough to land and then also walk for a bit because it's never precise. You will also need to install some tech in your multitool so make sure you have a slot free.

The living ship is not better than a maxed out S-class, but it's certainly unique, and you might find it more convenient to gather its fuels than a normal ship (no warp cell crafting, for one thing).

On the time gating, unless they patched it, you can just adjust your system clock, at least on PC :ssh:

I did the whole thing in one afternoon. The coordinates thing is a pain in the rear end for sure.
