It's 2006. I am taking 276 yeti furs from the goodies hoard.
Lmao I was just in Madame Tusk's casino (on the best run I've ever had, I left 1-1 with 17 bombs, 7 ropes, and 15k gold) casually bouncing dice off the forcefield like I've done a million times before, and one of the dice decided to just hit the ground and then slowly keep rolling on the ground to the left, all the way to the front door. Didn't have time to react and obviously was summarily executed for theft. Never seen one do that before, what the hell?

It’s like a physics mechanic that they put in, but didn’t want to give it to the player so they didn’t attach any controls for it, and the only AI intelligent enough to use it are hired hands.

I wonder if it’s related to the standard coffin room always having a ‘fire exit’ block on the side.

IMHO this is a problem with both spelunky 1 and spelunky 2. There are a bunch of good items, but the shotgun is so much better than everything else in almost every case, plus it has infinite ammo, plus every single shopkeeper drops one. Sometimes I'll try another item for fun, but the shotgun trumps all and it's not even close. it's honestly kind of a weird design decision and something that should have been tweaked between games
imo the gun is good for fighting shop keepers and not much else. bullets bouncing back from off screen vs multiple types of enemies/obstacles is bad. hitting off screen ghost pots is also bad. spike shoes with whip is better imo and you get a whip that can attack while moving down or up without recoil and behind and above you which the gun cannot do.

this game supports a lot of different play styles tho and I just don't like having to constantly juggle the gun with other items. bring unable to hold poo poo makes you way less versatile. if I've robbed a shop and am not getting forgiven I tend to take it just to fight the shop guy. but not being able to attack above me without jumping sucks. imo basically all of the held weapons suck

We may have finally found unobtainium but I will never find eywa.

Webgun can be used to clear jumps longer/higher than what would normally be possible, but it probably isn't going to save you that many ropes or anything.

Wait till they add online coop (assuming you are on pc) where the ghost turns into unlimited recon. I almost exclusively play coop (since my wife also loves Spelunky), but same screen coop probably hurts us more than helps us unless one of us wants to just ghost it. Two people in one tiny screen space equals a lot more chances for Spelunky chain chaos. The ghost actually seems a little less useful than 1 since there were more things you could activate as a ghost there.

Once they add in online it'll probably make the game easy enough for us to get anywhere (still can't consistently get to watery levels) so I cannot wait argh give me lovely online coop Derek.

If you pick them up and drop them they can fall asleep to re-join you between levels. Especially if you've gone far enough away while they were stunned that they can't follow you. Just make sure you do it where they can't wander into danger or have danger wander into them.

They eventually wake up again. I managed to do it shortly after I wrote the post actually, I just got a jetpack from the big fish and good level gen and managed to zip through 6-3 and 6-4 in about 10 seconds each while the hired help was sleeping.

I have to get off the turkey (which is like up and jump, which also sucks cause I sometimes fall off when double jumping), grab an item then get back on the turkey. Have not found a way to pick something up while sat on the turkey, he just does the head bonk.

Down+jump simply gets off the mount, up+jump does a jump off the mount.

There's no way to pick something up while you're mounted, but you can jump on a mount while holding something. Just be really careful with your attack button while both holding something and mounted. I think the default action is to throw whatever you're holding, unless the mount is crammed in a short passage.

I think I need to start trying to play with Dpad or keyboard, I so often accidentally jump off the turkey just jumping left/right cause I'm a sloppy analog stick player.

Yeah default attack while riding a mount is to use whatever is in your hand, I think. If you duck down on your mount (or are forced down because it’s a single block-tall passage) and then use the attack button, the mount will attack instead.

It’d be nice to be able to pick things up while riding a mount though. Like, if you ducked down while standing over an item or something.

If you take the secret route this is much easier to accomplish. Technically all you need is the ankh.

Full details:
In 3-3 there will be a sub-level on either the far left or far right side of the map, this will take you under the lava pool. The sub-level exit is one way, so you will be trapped under the lava.
There is a golden idol in this area that will detonate the floor under the lava. Set it off and die, consuming your ankh. Under the level exit there will be another exit that was previously hidden by the lava. This takes you to Abzu, where there is a boss that you are required to kill for the super-secret route. You can ignore it if you just want to bring a hired hand to Terra. Under the boss arena in the water will be a coffin with Tina in it. After you get Tina this coffin will always have a hired hand in it for future runs, so you can clear the area then exit with the hired hand.

Tina also counts as a hired hand for this shortcut, which is how I got it! Now to just bring the key there...

The update that changes the spawn rates and level generation in the Dwelling is out on PS4 now, it feels pretty well-balanced now. It's still decently challenging and you can't just sleepwalk through it but I'm not dying in it like a dozen times in a row anymore, I can get to World 2 a lot more reliably now.

The changes to 1-4's level gen are nice, it's varied enough now that my first time playing with this update I forgot I was on 1-4 because I didn't recognize the terrain at all until I reached the ladder to the boss
