What makes it look like a disinformation op, that is, one to stifle otherwise curious investigators and to dispel panic about the 4chan finding, is when every CIA-loving blue-checkmark liberal keeps repeating that the whole thing is debunked without addressing the second half

Looks like that was less than 2 hours between when the news hit twitter and when these posts were made. I guess it depends how rapid a response you believe the people maintaining the Oregon voter registration page have at 10pm on a Saturday night.

lol i made the mistake of returning a 404 when something wasn't found at work once, only to have that break the client. obviously i'm supposed to return 200, with json body that has 404 as the error status code. obviously.

Granite Octopus

ughh just last year I updated our api to actually return appropriate error codes. previously it was always mostly 200 status code with a Json object that contained a “status” property for the actual status code.

then there are the endpoints that return a 400 status when there’s an unrecoverable server side error.

also someone did a bunch of work to intercept the standard error codes returned by our implementation (that was correct!) to make it do this batshit wrong behaviour.

There's nothing stopping you from inventing your own http methods. PUT and POST and DELETE in the end are nothing more than text strings that servers handle in a certain way.

So if you want you could use the HTTP method to send any text message. Just make sure to replace whitespace with another character because a whitespace indicates the end of the method token.

our corporate net has a firewall that eats links, to prevent goobers from clicking on random bullshit, because training people to do this reliably will never in a kerzillion years happen ever

so our corporate senders, who for some reason use mailers on the wrong side of it, just include a "cant read this email? copy this link into your browser http://www.butt.ly/n0t4virus.ru" link in their mailers :bang:

it's been addressed and the justification is, so far as i can tell, "but i waaaaaaaaaanaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"

see now that's the fun part. the link eater obfuscates them to something like www.[blocked].yoursite_kindaRANDOMGUIDBULLSHIT[blocked].com[blocked] but it leaves the cleartext there, so you could copy and paste it if you know how. there is a nonzero number of requests in the helpdesk system for instructions on how to do this. sadly, they did not end with "do you still have the box your computer came in?"

Applebees posted:

there is also a nonzero number of people who have tried this, both by phone and online chat. the alert logs were very entertaining

they aren't stupid, these people, they're just bad at computer and also bad at reading and remembering one page of instructions telling them not to do things they never knew were stupid
