I fully expect SM to squeeze at least one comeback out before Taemin goes off to duty. It'll never be the same without Jonghyun, but I'm really looking forward to seeing the boys all together again. 100bux does seem like a lot for an album from one of the few groups that actually sells their albums in the west. Is it a bundle at least or smth?

Yeah! I follow Key on instagram (lol) so I saw he recently discharged. Now I just gott wait for a BigBang comeback and 2012 me will be GOOD TO GO. The album comes with bunch of stuff (photocards, posters, booklets etc) but they haven't even released the concept or design stuff yet!

I know this isn't a j-pop thread, but I couldn't find one. I can't believe it's taken me this long to come across Perfume. I love that type of extremely processed upbeat electronic pop, but I feel like k-pop has moved on from that pretty much. As the Irene situation has developed further I have no idea how it's going to shape out. They're talking about delaying the premiere of Irene's new film. And it sounds like it was only SM staff that apologised at first, Irene was only forced to apologise when SM found out there was a recording. There's a lot of people defending her but most of them still seem to work for SM so it's hard to see that as anything other than a PR exercise, especially when it would be difficult for other people to say anything bad without the risk of legal action being taken against them. A Chinese stylist that seems to have worked with a lot of celebrities also spoke out against her you'd think the AOA situation would have made people realise the impact verbal abuse can actually have on someone

RV has pulled out of a fan meeting they were supposed to be part of, and yeah I'd imagine any planned comeback for this year is being delayed. This situation's hard as hell to read b/c there's a ton of false information going around both for and against her. And I personally do not trust almost anything posted to koreaboo or allkpop, they cherry pick translations and spread misinformation all the time. I can read Korean okay but not well enough to schlep my rear end over to Naver and get a proper feel of what's going on. From what I can tell: Irene's 20 minute flip out was clearly true considering how fast Irene and SM both apologized online, and Irene going to apologize to the editor in person. There were some other industry people in comments vagueposting about how Irene has had a bad attitude in the past. But a huge majority of the people who are being cited as proof she's done this a lot in the past were simply people liking an instagram post and the internet jumping to conclusions. The two biggest claims against Irene I could find last night are the one that started this all, and another from a Chinese stylist who posted on her Weibo account about an encounter in 2018. Far more industry people are coming forward to defend her character than coming forward with stories of her abuse. Any talk about her movie being delayed because of this scandal was a rumour, and the person claiming to be a staff member abused by her on set was proven to be fake from what I can tell. This movie was already in talks for being delayed over Covid-19 and the production company went out of their way to clear up that misunderstanding. From where I'm standing her behaviour looks to be not as common as was originally believed when this story first broke and the internet ran wild with it, but she DID go off on that editor for 20 minutes and make her cry, and has definitely been a dick to some staffs in the past. Hopefully this means it isn't an every day occurance for her and she'll be able to grow and learn from it way more easily than if she was a raging diva 24/7. Either way the ground her career stands on seems p shaky atm, depending on how this all pans out in the next few days. The other members seem to be mostly safe from it. I think Yeri has had a few things said about her own 'ungrateful' attitude, but I'm unsure how much of that is actual instances from the past or people just assuming since she and Irene are so close, and Yeri is already kind of unpopular with people just due to having joined the group late. Seulgi is also incredibly close to Irene but is already very well known for being a good person, so she's been p safe along with Wendy who also has a reputation for being very nice. Joy seems to have been left mostly out of the conversation thankfully. RV will definitely come back from this, it's just a matter of when and whether or not Irene will be a part of that, and if she does stay a member of the group whether or not they put her on a longer hiatus and have an OT4 comeback before she can perform with them again. It's a tough thing to try and make any call on b/c there are idols and celebs whose careers have survived scandals like this before, but uh, it's mostly men who seem to be able to slide through that poo poo. Female idols have had careers ended over less. It also doesn't help that Irene is one of the most famous faces in Korea period, so this news is very loving big over there. e: also from what i can tell only one of the people defending Irene is an actual SM employee (at least from where I left off last night), one of their backup dancers who has been with them from the beginning. The other industry people coming forward certainly have worked with SM and their artists but aren't actual employees iirc e2: also worth mentioning that even if they do come back without Irene, it'll be a p rocky road for RV in terms of how successful any OT4 comeback ends up being. First impressions of Eyes Wide Open: I Can't Stop Me is one of the best title tracks in their discography imo. Early standouts among the b-sides: Do What We Like, Handle It, Shot Clock, Depend On You, Say Something, Behind The Mask. A few underwhelming tracks around the middle but the tracklist ends super strong. Love it - gonna be on repeat all day. I upgraded to a 4K TV and Studio Choom has been an amazing showcases of its abilities. K-pop in general has been putting out the best 4K content this past year. Searching for "k-choreo" on Youtube is a pro move. With the pandemic going on all these k-pop groups are still performing on stage shows, and because there's no audience, the studios are setting up UHD cameras front row center to replicate the experience of being there.
