Sydin posted:If you're in to pokemon and want something to put on in the background, Jrose11 does a bunch of videos where he tries to beat Pokemon Red/Blue (and very occasionally other titles) with just one pokemon, no items allowed in battle. This ranges from the actual starters, to legendaries, to an Abra that he's not allowed to evolve and can only teach physical moves. Yeah I enjoy chucking videos by him or Mah-Dry-Bread on in the background while I'm playing games. Just nice background noise for something that I grew up with but didn't truly dive deep into.

Sadly I can’t watch this until tonight, but very excited to see this in my subscriptions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3v5wFMQRqs Lindsay getting dragged into the lunatic thing she found is not unexpected, but I’m liking the idea of some c-grade troll having no idea what she’s provoking by going after someone with such an intimate understanding of the mistakes internet amateurs make when they try to monetize a hobby. EDIT: AW gently caress BEATEN

That Lindsay Ellis video is really good. Not quite as good as the original, but considering that making a followup was not part of her original plan it works really well. Here's another video I saw recently. Jeffrey Stillwell (who I think I followed because he's such a huge Brian Wilson fan that he remade Pet Sounds from The Beach Boys from scratch and then made a video about that) talks about the visual look of Wes Anderson films and other filmmakers who use or have used a similar style in their work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=behptQEtmSc

One of the more interesting takeaways is Lindsay coming to the realization that the fundamental premises of her first video was wrong, or at least incomplete. The problem isn't Cain abusing the DMCA, it's about Cain being a psycho bully who tries to deplatform anybody who's even remotely critical of her or that she doesn't like, and DMCA takedowns are just one of the many tools her kit for doing so. Hopefully Cain isn't stupid enough to actually go through with trying to sue Lindsay. It's a battle Cain would absolutely lose, but even frivolous lawsuits are expensive and exhausting and nobody needs to go through that, particularly this year of all years.

Jamie Faith posted:Wait what? I knew Jack was crazy and I heard about the batman thing, but what's this about him putting porn in his lawsuits? It was in a disbarment case against him too. Thompson was convinced the opposing lawyer was working with some Florida LGBT activist who had been rightfully publicly critical of Thompson's homophobic moral crusading. So in order to "discredit" this opposing secret LGBT-agent lawyer, he submitted a massive amount of hardcore M/M porn to the judge, as "proof" of how horrible and gross this other lawyer and his secret LGBT allies really were. The judge, unsurprisingly, was not amused.

It would be satisfying to see Lindsay wreck her up in court if she can reasonably endure the costs because she’s someone who started out monetizing a hobby on the internet and would have been and was vulnerable to predatory bad actors moving through the world of monetized internet hobbies like that, but she’s become an internet professional with means and expertise and has survived organized harassment far beyond whatever a mean girl can manage. There would be an element of karmic justice that might feel satisfying. It’s probably not worth it, but wouldn’t it be nice to see the American legal system actually deliver justice?

MechanicalTomPetty posted:How did Jack last as long as he did? Were people just not paying attention until his lunacy became too public to ignore? Right place right time right victims I think. He publicly went after rap music in '90 when a lot of people on the right where really starting to wring their hands over it, and he started going after violence in video games by using school shootings as a springboard to say "look these kids had violent games, this is why they ended up being violent themselves" and once again rode the wave of a moral outrage. Granted this is just me spitballing. He was definitely always a nutter and had to be known as such in legal circles, like holy poo poo this wikipedia page: quote:In sending documents to opponents, Thompson would frequently attach a photocopy of his driver's license, with a photo of Batman pasted over his own. Thompson said, "I have sent my opponents pictures of Batman to remind them I'm playing the role of Batman. Just like Bruce Wayne helped the police in the movie, I have had to assist the sheriff of Broward County." He also wore a Batman wristwatch.[23] quote:Thompson also said, "the 'social commentary' on this album is akin to a sociopath's discharging his AK-47 into a crowded schoolyard, with the machine gun bursts interrupted by Pee-wee Herman's views on politics".[26] quote:As the debate continued, Thompson wrote, "An industry that says a line cannot be drawn will be drawn and quartered."[28 Like come on, people knew. He was just getting protected/ignored because he was primarily bashing on African Americans, LGBT folks, and kids.
