there is a list of different live coding environments/software i found a while back https://github.com/toplap/awesome-livecoding

it's a hell of a rabbit hole to go down and it is not even a complete list (resolume is missing for instance), and then you also get visuals-oriented eurorack modules these days

i wish i had the time and energy to mess around with both visuals and audio, but for the time being music wins out

here's the set we did this tuesday by the way. the visuals are a bit choppy due to technical problems https://videos.scanlines.xyz/videos/watch/playlist/39e62d80-c126-41fb-9c97-dc6664120f4d?videoId=3e037eca-9633-410a-aed3-fe5f8f9aa209

that’s interesting kormak thanks. sweet voice lol

I’m having to accept my canon 7d isn’t gonna but the mustard for filming me. can install a 3rd party add on on the camera called magic lantern and may do it anyway, in order to stream video off of the camera (it just removes any text from the preview and you just stream the preview from the live mode) but apparently it overheats in about 15 mins :/ and my voice certainly isn’t enough to bother streaming so giving up the twitch dream for now. it was probably a stupid excited like a child for new thing idea that was gonna fail and end up costing money for no good end goal anyway 🤷‍♂️ story of my life

if you want, record a minute of yourself talking or reading something and DM it to me (i won't share it) and i'll record a minute of myself and DM it to you and you can see how low the bar is. you're fine, dude.

Actually you owe me 6! But who's countin?

I have an interesting music idea and sort of excited about the pocket operators again. So I put them on my Christmas list instead of buying them outright so someone else can spend money on it cuz I suck at spending money for myself.

Think I'm going to get the speak first and also learn some trippy digital abstract painting in blender

So I pulled the trigger on this PO-32 and while I was trying to get an idea of what someone can do with it I came across this guy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiUL4yCB8lM

And I am in it. I have been binging his videos since. I have no idea what I am doing. I have no idea what a lot of this music is even called. Never learned an instrument. Know gently caress all about music but I am excited to make weird sounds. Prepare for bad synth.

Bad synth is coming.

There is something with him and the algorithm where if I click on one of his videos, that's all Youtube ever assumes I want to see forever. Must be something with my watch patterns and his channel that matches up well

Does anyone have suggestions for software to use with Linux or Win10 for making the tracks, sounds, etc?

I don't think I want to use Audacity unless there is some hidden feature that makes it a lot easier to use.

KoRMaK
Jul 31, 2012

and it glows a cool as 50s soviet bunker red when u flip it on!!!! its so good looking and sounding, its great. ill try to take a better more hdr pic later

here it is, theres 3 flavors but i got the one geared toward metal people
https://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-THR10X-Amplifier-Production-Software/dp/B009NO06JO

it sounds really loving good and has replaced a number of things in my chain. in fact, the audio being recorded and played back on my desktop speakers doesnt sound as good as the little amp itself. so there is something nice about its punchiness or something.

HOWEVER i am using it for its onboard effects which is just a light reverb for now (it does really good amp modeling but im using my homebrew dual distorition and not the amp moedling on the yahama) and its basically acting as a glorified usb asio device to my daw

e: theres a loving wireless version now...?? i dunno about that.... wireless to and from what?
ee: oh more reading, its like a guitar wireless standard or some poo poo, so, zero-ish lag and its got bluetooth for aux accompaniment

In completely predicitable news: Not knowing anything about music or synthesizers makes it difficult to make anything new and worth listening to on this PO-32 thing. It is neat though.

I am afraid I am not familiar with your fancy music jargon. This must be what normies feel when I tell them I am a programmer right before I tell them how garbage all software developers are.

; ) thats exactly why i dont venture into the real musicians threads in other subs.

we're here to lift each other, so if I could make a recommendation, its to pick a musical key and learned your fretboard or whatever it is in that key, and then limit yourself to only playing those notes. on a typical music keyboard its 8 out of the 12 available notes. ill just throw one out there, try this for an hour

basicmusictheory.com is a really great educational tool, i use it for reference all the time. scroll down to where you see this image. also, this is the fretboard layout that you should limit yourself to for an hour, its in the key of B major. theres only 8 notes, but try to press various combinations and permutations of them in groups of 2, 3 and sometimes even 4, over and over and over and see how you feel about what they sound like. you generally want to skip keys inbetween, so press like 1,3 and 1,3,5, or 2,4, or 2,4,6. and then try 2,4,7 - see how it feels.
https://www.basicmusictheory.com/b-major-scale

e: oh dammit, the po-32 is a drum machine. that makes what i just said like mostly irrelevant unless theres a keyboard synth function on it. my bad

instead of music, just try to hit the hi-hat every other beat, and the drums every like 4 beate, and the kick every 8 beats.
