I finally moved away from double heavy gauss on my Sleipnir and went to 4 LB-10X and  I'm clocking 900+ damage and 6 kills with almost no effort. Think I'm gonna go on a ballistics kick for a while. Any favorites out there?

Direwolf with six UAC5s still works, everyone stopped running it after they gave clan UAC5s ghost heat but if you are very careful with your fire you can still almost max the DPS without triggering spooky heat by firing 3+3. Downside is that you're in a DWF.

when I last played, I occasionally liked a 2uac10 or 2uac20 brawl warhawk; the saving grace there is the 30% jam chance quirk and that its mobile for its size. There are other mechs that can do that though, its hitboxes are kinda lovely, and i think the 4/5lpl is better anyway. The roughneck heroes have good ballistics, iirc? I think its the powerhouse? Ebon jaguar used to be real popular for high mount ballistics and I don't think it ever stopped being good, just less popular as other mecha came along.

ECM Blood Asp with 3 uac5s and 1 uac 10 or 2 uac10s and 1 uac20. Mad Cat 2 B with the standard 2 uac10 and 2 uac5 combo. Jump jets for flavor and canyon wall hopping.

Mine has 5x med pulse and 2x MRM20. Warhammers and Linebackers can both do good laser vomit. I'd also recommend Roughnecks for high-mount fun (like the -1A with LBX20 + MRM40), but those are cheap enough to buy outside the event.

W/L or KDA? Looking at the numbers, I guess it's the K-9 for both with a 12.0 W/L and a 9.0 KDA but that's only over 13 games. For mechs I've actually played it's the Top Dog, with a 2.17 W/L and a 4.67 KDA over 760 games.

There are no clan medium hero mechs that are noteworthy for their laser vomit capabilities. Save your mc. Cbill mechs will do you fine here. Tarcomp 7s are very niche and generally you won't be using it except for maybe a PPC Summoner? Can be cbill purchased so no need for mc there too unless you really like the build and want a hero for the cbill boost. The lightest mech that can use uac2s or ac2s effectively and has speed is the cbill purchaseable dragon 5n. Any lower and you wont have the weight for sufficient dps and/or speed. Of mechs that I have played substantially, the Executioner Prime is my best at 2.70k/d, though I haven't played it much since they mutilated its agility stats and clan smalls. Honorable mention for things I have played enough to be more than a fluke but less than a statistic is the 3.25k/d in the Cicada 2A, at about 50 games. I... would not have guessed that one.

Medusa at 4.33 apparently but that's with 21 games. Linebacker at 3.32 with 50. Blood Asp at 3.02 with 127 games. Nova at 3.33 at 380 games. Rest in Piss Clan SPLs...

The BJ-1 can do ok with AC2s and medium lasers, but you gotta XL that poo poo and Always Be Shooting to get those damage numbers up so you have to be super aggressive in getting firing angles.

Highest I have from a mech I played regularly is the old-school SPL ACH with 5.1 KDR I have played nine matches in a ML Osiris, have 14 kills, and zero deaths, so best KDR is infinite I guess? best WLR in something I've played regularly is the HGR Fafnir with 2.27. 3.73 KDR on that too

I haven't played in years but it remembers some of my stats. k/d goes to the old TDR-5SS. w/l turned out to be FS9-A and was also second for k/d. The good things I can say about MW5 is that some of the builds that don't work in MWO work well in MW5. The bad things I can say about MW5 are mods fix a lot of the problem. Which is not great for a games future if the devs made a lovely base game.

Sure, you shoot a lot, but the moment someone goes "Wow, that IS a lot of firepower for a light mech" they turn their guns on the Cougar and then it doesn't have much firepower anymore. I have a lot of time in the Adder which is a similar concept and I love it, but if you are not ready to go from being king of the world to dead very very fast you will not enjoy it.
